Does anyone else feel the need to have a different car then everyone else on the road? I like to be different, I like cars that are rare to see on the road. My 68 cutlass for example. I loved it when I first got my WRX, there were only 2 within a 30 min radius. That's including mine. Now everyone and their brother has a WRX!! It might be time for a change?..maybe not

I guess I'm a attention whore or something.

nah....I'm same way....not only with cars....I like to have a unique different car.....I know there are other legacies out there, but there's probably no one with the combination of stuff I have, or things I've done.

Yeah, My 2000 Accord I had recently Made me feel like an ant in a big line of identical ants rolling down the highway.
Every intersection I saw one... Half of which were the same color as mine...

The Legacy SS Made me feel MUCH better. I don't see too many 1st gen Legacy sedans around here at all, and have ony seen ONE other Sport Sedan on the road (while up in the suburbs of Cleveland).

Now, the Touring Wagon will be another little ray of sunshine for me. even harder to find than the SS, I think I could hit 50 Junkyards around here, and not find one.

I can finally feel like an individual ant.... rolling along beside Outback after Outback...after Outback...after Accord...after Accord ...Civic...Civic........Civic...Civic.....

Some of the more unique cars I test drove/checked out to buy before a fortunate twist of fate lead me to Subaru via Datsun:

Saab Sonett III, '67 and '76 Cadillac hearses, Volvo PV544, Borgward Isabella, & TVR 2500M.

I want a car that everyone asks, "What the hell is that thing?" But I don't want the follow up question to be, "Is it a kit?" so it narrows things a bit.

I LOVE having a unique car.

I've seen one other SS in the local area (Matt's, Legacy92ej22t) and only a few 1st gen Legacy's.

I appreciate the beauty of an individual car. My car looks good, better than most 10 year old cars. It's a performer through and through, and it comfortably seats 4 adults.

Something about standing out, but blending in. I really like it. I'll likely never see another SS on the road in my area (owned by someone I don't know), but no one will ever notice mine.

I agree. A Toyota Camry is really a nice, well-made car. But they're so freekin boring and everyday. I prefer to drive something different, even if it doesn't look that different at first glance.

I love my XT because it brings back memories for people. I had a guy in an STi jump out of his car and run over to mine. He said he had a XT Turbo back in 94 until he cracked the head

He said he had not seen one single XT since then until he saw mine.

XTs and SVXs are the kinds of cars nobody notices until something brings them to their attention. Then they wonder what it is and ask all kinds of questions. I've seen it personally a couple times.

I believe this is the reason we (i'm just getting my feet wet) are subaru enthusiasts. Subaru's in general are unique, from 360, to ff1, to brat, to xt, to legacy, to svx, even to justy. The justy is IMO the most subaru-esque of all the subarus, I mean it's got an inline engine, three cyl (all the others are even number amount), framed windows, etc. There's a long list of subarus I want real bad, entirely because they're different. There's very few other cars I could actually see myself driving daily. My next car though NEEDS to be from the alcyone series

IIRC the Justy was a rebadged Suzuki, but with optional Subaru developed CVT and 4wd.

thats exacty why i will never get an imprezza. last year at school 6 people had wrxs 2 had sti's and whoever couldnt afford new rxes got 2.5rs with turbs and there were probaly 9 of thoes. and this is a school with no more than 500 students

It sucks. Subarus used to be like AMCs or Studebakers at muscle car shows, now they're everywhere. I was flying the flag back when the bandwagon jumpers were laughing at me and never heard of rallying.

I love how my Touring Wagon blends in so much, and people just look at it and think GT b2 legacy, I love how it's rare, and nobody else knows, and how it can beat half the cars on the road. I secretly giggle to myself, and often times find myself either walking through parking lots or driving down the freeway looking at cars thinking "I can beat you, and you, and you..."

But I DO love being in a car that is out of the ordinary, and would love an SVX, not only for the WTF factor, but because it's so goofy looking. if only they werent so different from other subarus, you should see the techs at the dealership when they find out they've got an SVX on their plate. lol

I also like to have a unique car. when I had my volvo 145 it was awesome, no one had ever heard of them. I'd like to have another rabbit too, those are really fun and unique(nowadays) but the good ones are few and far between.

for my next project I'll have either a volvo 142, datsun 510, or a toyota starlet, whichever comes along first. everyone knows about 510's, but they are pretty rare and undeniably cool. volvo 142's aren't as rare, but no one likes them so they are DIRT cheap. the nicest, concours winning 140 series could fetch a max of maybe 5 grand. Did I mention the engine bay is big enough to fit a big block chevy?

starlets are super cool, just a little old hatchback... with rwd.

looking to put a 5.0/t5 in the 142, or a n/a 13b rotary in the 510 or starlet.

There are a few old Volvos running V8 Fords around here as there's a conversion company in NH. I always thought that would be a cool car. An old 140-series V8 would be nice. I've never seen a 142 that I can recall. I think those cars look great and it would probably end up lighter than a Mustang.

I've always loved 510s - they're like the Japanese BMW 2002, but I think even nicer looking (at least better than the safety bumper models).

5.0 swaps on 240 and 740 series are quite common(there are 2 745's with 5.0 and AOD in my neighborhood alone, and several others in seattle) but yeah, never seen a 142 engine swap other than a b21ft. 142's weigh ~2600lbs stock, so add about 75lbs, 200hp and ft/lbs, it would move. plenty of awesome volvo wheels from the factory, such as t5-r wheels... :drool: oh and 140 series have a-arm front suspension.

I like having the only 91 Legacy Turbo in my entire city. as far as I've seen....

I get the occasional head turn, and if I pull away from someone at a set of lights they normally comment "that old subaru has some good pickup"

I feel so generic with my new altima but I try to do whatever I can to make it unique. It sucks rolling around in something everyone has. But key is not to go overboard like those insane ricers. Yeah their cars look unique but at the same time uglier than a pile of shit.

In new york I dont belive I EVER saw a SS 90-94 or wagon

Well, most of you know what I drive, so it's pretty easy to see that there aren't too many other cars like mine around. When I do spot one, I'm just as excited to see it as most others are to see my car!

Seriously, though . . . from what I've done with it, I haven't found another one quite like it. Actually, not even really close, either. So yeah. . . even on the other boards I'm a member of, I still get comments about how recognizable my car is, because it's so "different"

3 people stopped me to talk about my car today.

One guy at a speed shop complimented my exhaust and another guy at the shop thought it was bitchin that I was doing all this work myself.

The third guy works at a local audio shop and has been helping me figure out the battery relocation hardwear that I'd need.
