What a bunch of BS!!!

Post by Tleg93 »

I just received a letter in the mail today telling me my driving privileges will be suspended for six months starting on 8/24 for my conviction on 7/12 of driving w/o a license on 5/30. The bullshit is that my license expired on 5/1 and I had a camera card that is good for sixty days on me but the cop never asked for it. I offered up that my license was expired when the cop pulled me over to maybe get off lighter... big mistake cuz it wasn't really expired. I pled guilty to the charge like an idiot who doesn't know the law. Fortunately, I can go to the prothonotories office to appeal the charge which is false. The suspension is set to go into effect on the 24th of August. When I make the appeal and set a new court date if the date falls after the start of the suspension I'll have to go to the court of common pleas and file and appeal, copy it and send a copy to Harrisburg to keep the suspension from going into effect until after the court date.

The sort of funny part of it is that I was caught for speeding and the DWOL charge on 5/30/04. If you look at my new license the issuance date is 5/03/04, before I was cited for the DWOL charge. I think I'll win this one. If I don't I'll be pissed.

Yeah, I found out I have to hire an attorney to go through the process. That's a 50 dollar ding plus the cost of the appeal - 65 dollar ding...

I can't get that back either I don't think. I may try though. This is what it's all about - struggling :?

I feel like a complete fool  but then again the officer should have known my camera card would be good for 60 days and told me about it.

I haven't had to deal with this kind of crap for going on ten years.

The stuff that was said about paralegals is misleading. You can't look up a paralegal in the phone book and call them to have them do work for you. So how does one go about contacting a paralegal?

Scott, are you talking about the stuff I said in Matt's thread?

I have never hired a paralegal myself; I was just repeating what others had told me and what I'd read.

I have a few friends who work as paralegals at law firms, but they work more as assistants to the attorneys in the firms.

To contact a paralegal, I would imagine you would contact a law firm and ask if you could hire the services of a paralegal in their employ.

I think I've found out what I need to know. The paralegals can't be hired independently of the lawyers they work for. You have to retain the firm's services and that will cost me $500.00 simolians.

Well, I talked to a lawyer today and I'm going to appeal the case. My case is based on the fact that you have to have a valid camera card, which acts as a temporary license, to get your photo taken for your new license. I got the photo taken on the 7th of June and I was pulled over on the 31st of May. You can't go to the driver license center and get a new card unless you have the VALID camera card to present to the person who is taking your picture for your new card so I should be golden. I repeated myself but it's only because my nerves are a wreck.
