Fuel tank access

Post by free5ty1e »

I have two issues with my fuel tank. The first is that I'd like to upgrade to a larger fuel pump, and want to know how to access this? Do I remove the tank? Do I go in through the trunk somehow?

Next, I seem to have a tank leak somewhere around the filler area. When the tank's close to being empty, it doesn't leak, so its not going to be something we can see easily from the bottom. Will probably have to remove the tank and replace it from what I'm seeing, and that looks like hell. Gotta remove the driveshaft, exhaust, suspension?! Christ. Someone give me a shortcut :)

You can get at the pump through an access hole in the trunk.

The leak is more then likely in the filler neck. Rocks/dirt and shit get stuck in the plastic piece and promotes rust. take the plastic piece off and see if that's where the leak is.

If you have to take the tank out, yah you have to take the exhaust & driveshaft out at least. I think you could squeek it by the subframe......I just took everything out of the donor legacy today......there's nothing left of the drivetrain.......haha

Thanks!

What plastic piece are you referring to though? When looking under the car the subframe was pretty much totally obscuring everything I thought was relevant. Can this be seen from below the car or through the trunk access hole or what?

pull the tire off the right rear. You'll see the filler neck. There is a plastic piece that covers it. remove that.
