For the 40398384579234873257th time...

Post by LaureltheQueen »

What is the largest size wheel I can fit under my car? I've got whitelines, and saw a b2 outback totally dumped with 18's, and it looked way hot. I know, I know, they'll be heavy, and I know, they'll make my car slow, but alas, I dont really care. The car's fast enough for me, and I want it to be pretty. :)

I think probably 20-22 would be the largest :)

We don't have the wheel wells for anything larger than 18's on 40 series rubber.

Anything less than 40 series, and you'll blow tires and scrape rims on WA roads.

Stick with 17's and 45 series tires. You should be able to clear the AGX's no problem as long as you get the right offset. The fender liner isn't going to be an issue, you'll have to roll the fenders anyway, and you can just push up the liner then.

225/45/17's on a +48mm offset on a 17x7.5" wheel will fill out the wells perfectly.

That's the size on my car in this pic...

And to show how flush with the fender they are...

Yeah, I want one size bigger on my fatass wagon. I've got Art talked into a test fit of his prodrives, just to see if I like how they look. Excellent. Thank you Phil, you rock.

Any time Laurel.

His 18's should fit NO problem as long as they are between 45 and 48 offset, and have nothing wider than a 225 Falken Azenis on them. They won't clear if they are anything bigger than a 40 series though, you'll rub the strut.

I was a ball hair away from rubbing the spring perch on the Azenis. If a fly farted on that setup, I would have rubbed (not really, but it was really snug). In reality, I had just as much clearance to the strut on the Azenis that I did with the stock RE92's. 48 offset is PERFECT for a 7.5" wide rim. They put the rims level with the fenders, and with a REAL 225 (not a 245 like the Azenis' actual measurement) the whole wheel/tire package will look PERFECT on the car.

Only problem is. . .

Prodrive PFF7s are 18x8" and I have 235/40-18 tires on them.

I think the SDRs might give you the look you want, but they come in only 17" from what I've seen:
Image

If you want 18" Rotas (I only say this because they're inexpensive and of fine quality) you'll likely need a set of Tarmac IIs, like my winter wheels, only bigger:

Otherwise, I'm sure Damon at Discount would hook us up with a set of Enkeis, etc. Only problem there is. . . most of the wheels in 18" are $200+ each. From Subydude, the Rotas are never more than $650 a set. . . SHIPPED.

18x8's with 235's WON'T fit without rubbing something. You MIGHT clear, but I doubt it. The wheel well simply isn't wide enough.

I'd stick with a 17 if I were you. It's the best all around wheel size for most people. Unless you are running MASSIVE brakes, you don't need the clearance of an 18 and it'll just slow you down. Plus, an 18 would look funny, and the super narrow profile would make the rims VERY succeptable to damage.

I saw a 94 BF today with 17's, and it looked good. Really good. I think it'd look even cooler with my drop, SO... I'll save myself some money, and alot of headache and stick with 17's. :(

Damn right!

Photoshop those gramlights onto your car, I wanna see how they look, so I'll know what to expect when I get my drop... and after I get my gram lights, lol.

Are you going with 17x7.5's? Fit a 225/45/17 on them for Stock WRX size on them. Stock Legacy equalivent would be 225/40/17. The 40 series might be TO small though.

For reference... This is a 225/40/18. The overall diameter is the same as a 225/45/17, so the sidewall would be identical as it would be on your 17's.

phill when did you get gram lights??

oh and laurel 19's are just about as big as they get. 18's are the most reliable. if you get 19's tho youll need to get 5 inch skirting all around. much like the ones on super touring cars to make it look proper. if you dont it will look a touch too big. if you want 20's you can get them wiith that new 225/20/20 nitto rubber.

I would laugh at anyone who had 20 series rubber.

I didn't get Gram Lights. Those were a test fit :(. I AM going to get them eventually (or Rota Attacks) in silver.
