Borked Sunroof

Post by kidatari »

I just bought a 91 Turbo Sedan, and the sunroof was jacked up when I got it. On the forward end of the side rails, there are two 4" metal pieces with what seems to be a small leaf spring under it, and the tab on the aft side appears to have broken off.

This causes the chrome piece in the front to not operate correctly, and jam open. Anyone have any insight into fixing this? Or should I go take the one out of my parts car (not sure if that one works at all). Anyone?

Those metal pieces are suppsoed to make the front metal part pop up when the roof is retracted. Those broke on mine after about a week of use, I haven't had a problem with it or with air coming in the car with the roof open. When you go to close it, you can just push that down when it goes to the pre-stop/finger-stop position I guess you could look into replacing it but I havent found a need to yet.

I tried pressing them down manually, but they just started binding in the track and bending the front metal pop up piece after a certian point. I have to mess with it more tonight.

Mine snapped under a little nut on the side. I just screwed the nut down tight enough to keep the two pieces down so that my sunroof could move back and forth all right. It has held up so far (almost a year).

I got the sunroof down by maneuvering the little metal pieces down in the side rails and closing the sunroof carefully. I'll have to try to snug down the pieces, if I can find a socket small enough.

Hmm, I wonder if my sunroof is water-tight... Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
