Picked up a Miata

Post by FG!! »

This thing's a blast. I recommend driving one if you haven't already... try and get one for a whole day. I got this one for $4k. It's got 120k miles but drives nicer than ones with 70k. The other thing that I liked is that it doesn't have PS. The feedback is cool. Paint and body is perfect, too. Thing rips pretty good past 5000 rpm. Here's a picture.

Still have the legacy ofcourse  .

Looks pretty clean. Now you need to Turbo it!

I was looking at getting a 91 Miata Turbo (Greddy kit, making close to 200whp), but it was just downright dangerous.

Konig wheels, I'm not crazy about them. A coworker put those exact wheels on a Kia Spectra he had and that just ruined them for me

I have driven a 99 Miata, and I will attest that they are a blast to drive. It deserves no less of a title than "pure sports car."

The 99 is considered the second best Miata EVER built. Second only to the 2004 Turbo Miata.

Turbo is up there on the list. I won't do any engine modifications otherwise. I have to get those Konigs off first, heavy pieces of poop.

I'll make it to an autocross if I ever can wake up  .

Trade for some stock Miata wheels, or get something light (Rota Slipstreams are light and cool, and clear good brakes).

I second the Slipstreams idea. It's not like you need to spend big money on wheels for a Miata. I think the biggest wheels you want to run on the first gens is 15" anyway. ;)

It sucks that the lightest stock ones are also the ugliest.

The Slip Streams in 15 x 6.5" trim weigh a scant 11.9 pounds.

I was thinking superleggeras, but the checkbook is smoking right. Gotta let that puppy cool off.

First "mod": pulled the parcel shelf out. I now have two more clicks on the seat back. heh. People who met me know I'm a big boy.

The Miata might have been the best sports car I've ever had. I got a '91 after the hysteria calmed down ($5,000 dealer mark-ups). I had one with NO options, no AC, no power anything, and it was light and agile. never fast but it was the most fun 120 hp I've ever driven.

Even better, I bought it at 24k miles for $8400, drove it for over 3 years, then sold it at 50k miles for $8,000. I didn't really do anything to it except keep it exceptionaly clean, and add a few minor upgrades.

The only bad experience I had was Mazda part prices ($90 rotors, $300 window mechanism that broke), and the 1080 degree spin I did in the snow, in front of an audience of dozens at a stoplight, but miraculously hit nothing. The ain't snow cats, that's for sure.

wheel weights for wheels that fit

Post by professor »

Sorry for the double post, but I though I had this somewhere...a table of wheel weights for wheels that fit the Miata

http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html#weight

luckily at 4x100 patern you'll find many that fit. I put on my original E30 BMW basket weave BBS's from my '87 325 and they fit nice. Note they are only 9 lb. each !

what's the point of putting a v8 in a miata, ruin the vehicle's most endearing quality, the near 50/50 weight distribution that allows such amazing handling?

speaking of handling, autocross on sunday. be there or be square. and also get drunken TM's from yours truly calling you a pussy

yeah a v8 in a miata is silly if you ask me. its not like the stock engine cant do handle anything, afterall it does share the same block with the 323.
