Anyways i got my first pulled over tonight. because of speeding (trying to pass someone going slower than the speed limit. and a modified exhaust. wtf is that. anyways i have to keep below 95 db.
so what kind of exhaust can do that?
thx

CES sapposedly has to stay under the 90 db level. At least the semi-sport version with the resonator, exhaust and hi-flow cat.

That's the theory - ask Matt (legacy92ej22t) and Phil (bac5.2) about how loud there's are. They sound incredible, but it's likely borderline so if you have strict cops around I wouldn't recommend it or I'd just be very careful about when you use the throttle. Me, I'm getting as much CES as I can afford, but with a stock looking rear muffler to keep it incognito and quiet enough.
Its very difficult to quantify db on exhaust anyway as there's no set standard for testing - at what distance, angle, rpm, throttle opening, etc. is the max volume tested? What about ambient noise which should be pretty consistent from test to test? Even the cops don't know as there's nothing in writing, but proving your end in court would likely be an uphill battle if the car sounds loud (even if the sales literature states that it's below the db limit). Safest bet is to keep it as close to stock as possible so as to not get pulled over for it.
Don't even get me started how they never bother motorcyclists even when they're WAY over the limit ...

yeah i know that about motorcyclist. but i think i wanna get it tested so when i show up in court and tell them that its below or at the 95 limit. because magna flow says it passes cali highway patrol.

Mine is LOUD. Cattless, it's probably around 90 to 92 with the resonator and muffler.
Steve - Prodrive makes an axle back with stock style tips. 3" inlet/outlet, with 2- 2" tips (I think that's right). Or you could just get some custom tips welded to a custom axleback.
I'm going with a HKS dp(to be modified so as not to create boost creep) wrx midpipe and STi axleback, I dont expect to get any greif from the police, because it's a stock subaru system(as far as they can see)

i found a pretty good lookin dp thats only 120 new. made by tsudo. everything else should be custom with a glasspack. the shop says it shouldnt even touch 90db.

Mine is loud, but it definately is stealth. I have the three inch exhaust tip, and the resonator and muffler. I have the test pipe in and it is very docile. You can't hear it down the road, and you only hear it on the road when I really get on it.
I can hear my brother as he drives down the street with it, but it doesn't sound any louder than some of those v8's with slightly modified mufflers. (the moderately loud ones)
Just ask Hardy how quiet it is. It's quieter than SubaruJunkie's car and he has stock exaust up to the cat, and a 2.5 cat back with a magnaflow muffler I believe.

Weird, mine is just plain loud, but I've got the full stainless system with ceramic coated downpipe, a test pipe, and the 4" muffler. Sounds different than the 3" tipped muffler.
Mine is loud. I pulled out of my neighborhood tonight on my way back to school. Shift at 3k into 2nd, then at 3500 into 3rd. I got on it in 3rd and ran it to redline. I was probably close to 1/4 mile or so, maybe slightly more, away from my house. My buddy who lives at the top of my neighborhood sent me a text message that said "fuckin loud ass car" and he called and said he heard me running out 3rd.
I get a MEAN burble and some pop with the test pipe.
I'm ALL about CES products now. I knew I wanted the system when I heard it on Matt's car. Now that it's on mine, I want ALL the bits, and I want everyone I know to have all the bits too. No system can compare to it.
maybe it's because he's still using the stock cross and up pipes. I dunno just guessing there, but its not too loud. I'd like my car to sound like that. Not loud enough to turn heads, but open enough to sound good to me

My exhaust is going to be so loud. a Helix catless DP to a custom 3" with a magnaflow. Courtesy of S-Squared. Thankfully, my Maryland plates should be here next week, so none of that smog crap
