Alignment question

Post by totech »

Anyone know what would cause a rear wheel to appear tipped out at the top?

It looks like the bottom of the wheel is pushed in and not further out like the other side.

Does the rear have the adjustable camber bolts? I think not.

I took it for an alignment and they told me it could not be fixed.

Weird.

I have looked for bent control arms- but they appear fine - actually, it looks like the top of the wheel is out, not the bottom in.

Where should I look - Bent strut?

The wheel only attaches be the control arm and the strut. Maybe the "knuckle" is somehow out of shape?

I'd check for damage some where. It shouldn't be like that?

When did you notice it?

I once ran into a curb sidways with my dads 2000 chrysler concord (big beasty piece of crap that costs more in maitenance and repairs than my 1990 subaru) anyways i hit it really slowly and the guys at the shop said it couldnt be aligned and they had to replace the "cradle" and other parts
it ended up costing about 1500!!
well that was pointless i wanted to get to a point but I forgot, Im going to bed now

Well, Its a strut!!

And in anticipation of replacing parts, I picked up some control arms.

With a few minutes as my wife was shopping today, I took a look under the car to see what was bent.

All the control arms looked fine, so looked higher - and there it was.

Just at the bottom before the mounting collar - a nice bend.

So - that is why the wheel tips out at the top.

Weird

Strut install time!

Bought the car like that - Honest.

The best guess is a slide into a kerb on that wheel..

I will take a picture next weekend when I get it out.
