AHHH!!!

Post by BAC5.2 »

Ok, gotta vent.

First of all, the IAC valve on our cars (turbo's only) is about the biggest bitch you could ever deal with.

My mechanic said the removal of the turbo was required. I didn't believe him. Turns out, it makes everything wicked easy. Nope. I decided to pull my 90 degree elbow and get at it that way. After some struggling, I got it replaced only to drop a bolt into the great abyss known only as "the pit of despair".

Now I have to go to Home Depot in the morning to get another bolt so I can get my car together. Then I have to drive BACK to school, to go to class then come BACK home for the weekend for some family stuff.

*sigh* I'm in a bad mood right now, and it sucks. Kathryn brought my mood up a lot, but I'm still disappointed that I couldn't get the car back together tonight.

I was talking to my parents, and it may just boil down to myself buying a brand new car. I don't know though. I would HATE to give up the Legacy, it's been the best car I've owned (even though it's been the most trouble). It's been the most fun thing I've had, and I've met some people I'd consider to be really good friends because of her.

I dunno what to do. I just want to get her running again, then my whole attitude will change on the subject.

*sigh*, I hate being depressed over my car. I say things that I know will never happen. I won't get rid of her until she blows up.

Sorry guys, I just had to vent.

Geez Phil you're worse than I was...:)

It is a 10-year-old car, it's going to have some problems. If it makes you feel any better, I screwed up my perfectly good IAC valve trying to clean it. Course mine isn't a turbo...

You don't want a new car. You don't want the payments, you don't want the ridiculous insurance rates, not yet...

Art, you old dog. Not like that. Not until the weekend ;).

Yea Subyluvr, your right. I don't want a new car. I was just fed up earlier. I get these mood swings where I get really depressed when I am frustrated. I want my suby to last a long time. She deserves to let the beast inside her roam free, and when I get some money, I'll gladly facilitate that as best I can.

I'm going to go to the junkyard again tomorrow and get the IAC off of the junked 92 Turbo that they have. The likelihood that the 92 is there with the SAME problems I am having, is pretty nill. I'm going to do that if, and only if, this new IAC doesn't help anything. I'm running the 92's ECU as we speak, and I'm having no issues yet.

Yes, it's 10 years old, and yes, it's going to have some problems. But when you add in the cost of the car, all the money I've spent is a lot of money to spend on a car that doesn't even run properly. When it DOES run properly, however, it'll be one of the better examples of the Turbo Legacy that I've encountered.

Do you have any independent auto parts places or machine shops around you could get a new bolt from? Home Depot and Loews around here don't have shit for metric. In the meantime you can steal a bolt from the timing belt covers. I don't know if they're long enough to just hold it on temporarily, but they are the same size & pitch, just shorter. I think the ones on the bottom center cover are regular bolts, but the side ones have a wide section to fill the bigger metal-sleeved holes in the side covers.

Steve - What size bolt is it?

I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow anyway, I might as well jack that bolt off of the stock turbo in the 92 they have at the yard, just to have a spare.

ACE Hardwear usually serves all of my metric needs. Our Home Depot has some of the more generic Metric bolts, but ACE is the first place I go for specialty stuff.

Couldn't tell you the size M8 x 1.25 x 20mm? A complete guess, but I'm positive it's the same size. In fact there are lots of bolts on the engine that use the same size, just different lengths.
