What would you choose...part two

Post by DLC »

Ok, many of you remember my post in May about replacing the wagon with something new. I was really interested in an 00 GT, but after the Ride n' Drive, i really had to think hard about the new GT. Well, that all took a back seat to the new motorcycle until mid-August, when the monsoon rains started arriving and i began driving the car more than once or twice a week.

I still like the car, but at the same time, i'm fed up with even considering what it would take to get it back to being acceptable. The list of problems is so long that i don't even want to start...and that's the ones i know about.

On the last episode, i was debating 98GT or 00GT, and was leaning towards the BE.

This time i have another, even more beautiful BE GT Limited in my sights. The competition this time is none other than the SVX.

The GT can be found in this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=597802

It's a looker. I've talked to the guy and he's pretty cool. He'll be moving to San Francisco in a few weeks and will be more ready to sell at that time. I love the white color, the GT options, and what is nearly a perfect list of mods.

I had a few SVXes in mind, but they seem to sell pretty fast when they have what i want, which is low miles or a 5MT swap.

I love the thought of 230HP, but i don't know if i'm looking for a big GT coupe. While i'm a huge wagon fan, i really do love the BE. It's also hard to find 96-97 SVXes because they made so few of them and they may take a few more years to get into circulation.

Price is a consideration, of course, but a nice 97 LSI SVX will run upwards of 10k, which is what i'm looking at for a 00-01 BE.

What would you do?

svx looks so cool, but considering the lackage of parts, and how little subaru mechanics like to work on them, i'm gonna suggest the leggy

SVX all the way. THere's too many small things to love about the car to choose otherwise.

If old car aggravation is getting you down, the newer car is the best bet, but I'd hold on the new GT for a few months so they can work out any new car bugs. I do like the SVXs, but as you said, MT conversions are rare and in demand. I'd like to make a business of converting them as SVXs are cheap as dirt with bad autos, but I think even with the MT swap it wouldn't be worth enough to make much money.

Subaru needs to release a newer SVX to the USDM.

They brought back the Brat, so you never know...

Very nice looking Legacy, but waaaay too many miles.

I say go with that 10k SVX you were telling us about on IRC, forget the distance :)

And you HAVE TO sell your wagon to someone on this board. Jason kept his car in the family, it's only right that you do as well...

90k is a little high for a 2000, but average would be around 60...

That 10k mile SVX was sold, unfortunately. There was a highly modded 92 on subaru-svx.net with a 5MT swap, but it's gone too...

I'm hoping someone on the board will want my car. I'm asking a pretty fair price for it, around $3k.

Yea, but seeing that it's got 90k in 4 years, most of that HAS to be highway miles (it'd be impossible to put that kind of mileage on a car just driving to and from the grocery store).

I'd be willing to bet it's pretty much been babied, or close to it for it's life.

Then again, it's pretty hard to pass up an SVX.

Could always sell your soul to the devil and get an 05 Legacy GT

Polls never lie...

Anyways, it looks like i'll be heading down to Vegas on Saturday to get the GT.

I'm happy that i'll be able to maintain my presence in the Legacy community. Who knows, with all of the BP/BL hooplah going around, maybe a BE/BH forum wouldn't be a bad idea.... :D

My brother and sister have a BE and a BH respectively. They're both auto though, so it's kinda hard to judge the level of performance. I really like the suspension though. That multilink rear is pretty nice.
