The numbers don't lie......-supercharger woes-

Post by douglas vincent »

.... And they told a sad, sad story at the track tonight. The current setup sucked balls. Best run of the night was 15.6 @ 88. Trying to get nitrous to work well with a non-ecu managed 10 psi just doesnt work. I was either running to rich (a nice 17.77 as I coughed and choked my way down the track), too lean as I rattled everytime I shifted, to what felt good, but sucked anyways.

I ended up turning down the boost via belt tension to about 6-7 psi (still got knock on shift) and removed the nitrous fuel solenoid out of the loop and just used the supercharger fuel solenoid w/ the nitrous and it ran ok.

The only good news (which is still bad) is that when running 10 psi, I have way more power on tap than the stock clutch can take on launch. ie I need a performance clutch.

And I think the worst news is that all this "power" the supercharger is giving me seems to really be non-existant. When I ran a pure SC run with no nitrous, I only pulled a 16.442 @ 83. This is at 8-10 psi. When I ran 3 months ago with the new engine NA, I pulled a best of 16.6 @ 79. ??????? This is an increase of only 20 hp max!???? At 8-10 psi????? The butt dyno, and everyone who has ridden in the car agrees the car has WAY more power. But the numbers dont lie. The supercharger sucks. Or so it seems.

Although, while I had a suck ass time tonight, I am confident the lack of increased performance is due to lack of tunable ECU, not lack of fuel (mostly).

Considering my great times (for me at least) last time I went to the track when I was running the low boost and nitrous, I think lower boost and higher nitrous is the key at this point to better times at the strip. Higher boost without an aftermarket controller is just asking for way too much trouble.

Blah, sour taste tonight.

Could the clutch be slipping heavily? My car ran a 16.3 with just a K&N back when it had 150k on it.

I'm sure your method of boost-control by means of allowing the belt to "slip" isn't helping anything.

Maybe you should remap out your setup, get it working consistently (without slipping a belt to control boost) and get a clutch that can handle what you are throwing at it.

Then work on fuel control.
