Why are the 90-91 5mt's and 91-94 turbos hitachi based, and the 90-91 4eats and 92-94 non turbos (4eat or 5mt) JECS based? Anyone know?

And why do the 90-91 5speeds and 90-94 turboes have the "good" MAF sensors, and the others have that crappy piece of plastic?
Bragging here, picked up an extra one for $15 the other day.

THAWA - Just because, I guess. I think all pre-Legacy EFI Subarus used Hitachi engine management, so they stuck with Hitachi at first with the Legacy, but migrated over to JECS and stuck with them for many years before switching to the current Denso setup.
Douglas - Because MAF sensors and ECUs have to work together. Hitachi ECUs need Hitachi MAF sensors, and JECS ECUs need JECS MAF sensors.
