CAI filter & MAF sensor on EJ22 - how to trick the senso

Post by EJ22_SLO »

Hi!

My first post here.... I'm from Slovenia (Europe, 1 hour from Venice, Vienna,...), i have 1990 2.2 legacy wagon (EJ22), 250.000 km, Ranger edition (USA i believe), still works like Swiss clock :D 210Km/h top speed

after long nights of reading this great posts, i still didn't get any direct answer on - how to solve CAI intake & MAF sensor problem... i read lots of post here... got some info on cobbtuning.com (http://www.cobbtuning.com/tech/airflow/index.html);

the question is: how to mount CAI without damageing MAF? (turbilent flow etc...)...
can i espect any power increase (cca. 10HP???)....

regards from sunny slovenia....

I have never had any problems with the cone filter or cai on the MAF.

The power increase with most open intake systems is at top end, due to the increase flow of air. A loss of some mid range & low end torque might occur.

If you really want to put one on, make sure you make appropriate bracketry so the intake is securely mounted.

Here are few pictures of my setup after I made the additional bracket.

In these you can kind of see what the original bracket was like. I added the one above to help brace things

I've since gone back and put the stock airbox back on, and added an extra intake tube for more flow.

Generally, a section of straight pipe between the filter and the MAF will help negate the turbulence. I think it's right around a 3 to 5" straight section.

It's not a BAD idea, per-se', but I like to have some low-end torque. Espically since I've got a turbo huffing away at the atmosphere to suck some air in. I might go with a cone when I get my 16G and decide to go FMIC. Just to simplify routing and whatnot.
