3rd Annual East Coast Subaru Shootout!
*Copied off NASIOC*
East Coast Subaru Shootout '04
When: Saturday, September 18th 10am-6pm(though the gates usually open around 8am)
How Much: $30 for racers and vendors, free for specators.
Where: Beaver Springs Dragway(IHRA) located in Central PA( www.beaversprings.com )
For those of you who are new or have never been to the Shootout, it is purely a day set aside for Subaru enthusiasts to just head to the track, hang out with other Subaru nuts, and get a chance to talk to owners and tuners of some of the quickest Subarus in the country or maybe just to talk to someone that has the wheels you were thinking about buying. Ultra relaxed atmosphere. While the event is at a 1/4 mile drag strip, I think most who have been there will tell you it's more then simply a drag race, it's just a really cool day for Subaru nuts that happens to be at a drag strip for some friendly competition It is put on by W&L Subaru and while we do get some support from SOA and our PennJersey Region, it is solely sponsored by W&L Subaru( www.wandlsubaru.com ).
Classes:
Street Ulimited
Anything goes as long as it falls under the general rules
1st place- $800
2nd place- $300

Since the track is ours the entire day, we may incorporate a Quick 8 class for fun, we'll see.
General rules:
Same as in years past. Basically, the cars must be "street" cars. They must retain the factory drivetrain layout(Must have Subaru transmission, Subaru differentials, etc. , although the hardware inside can be upgraded). Also, if the car was AWD from the factory, it must remain AWD. No rear wheel drive cars. Front wheel drive is allowed if the car was FWD from the factory. Hood/fenders/front bumper must remain seperate(no exotic one piece front ends or anything like that). In addition to that, the car must abide by all IHRA safety rules, as they will be enforced the day of the Shootout.
Friday Night Party
W&L will once again host the Friday Night Shootout Party at our dealership. Show cars/parts display will be there from SOA and one of the guys will be at the parts counter all night should you need anything or if you want to pick up any parts you ordered during our Shootout Sale of SPT/STi parts(more on that later). We are also planning on having an engineer from SOA on hand for some question and answers with everyone. Pizza, Wings, soda, water, chips, dip, and whatever else we have, all free of charge. Also, the front half of our lot will be cleared out for everybody to show off their cars Many of us will probably sneak out to the El Rancho Bar and Grill afterwards.

It's not on there but I was told by Matt (Shik) that if we can get 6 BC/BF turbos there we can have our own class! I'm definitely going so 5 more and we have our own class.

Man, you tempt me with such unclean thoughts! I might just get a temporary fix on my car to make it out there (coolant hose issues - long story!). Maybe we can pick up my friends turbo Legacy that he bought in PA on the way out. In never-never land, that would be 5.

It sure would!
I don't want to stop there though, everyone should try and make it. The BC/BF crowd needs to represent! This is seriously the largest new Gen Subaru meet (especially turbos) in the US. They're expecting over 100+ Scuby's this year. Last year I think we had around 80 or so and it was pouring rain. Most of the people didn't even show up and there was 80 car!
It's huge, lots of vendors, lots of tech talk, a huge parts giveaway, racing and cars, cars, cars! Last year the 22B was there, hell that should be reason enough to go in itself!

awesome! now I have a 2nd chance after missing the feed and speed! This will be great since I'm a huge n00b when it comes to my car, I can change the oil and filters but that's about it. If anyone wants to swap in a ej22t before the meet i'd help you fill out the BC/BF turbos, otherwise it's 250,000 miles of N/A power.
Also after seeing the pics from the feed and speed (and vrg's car) I'll have to make my car all nice and shiny to sport the winestone.

Cool. Well the Friday night pre-party is from 6 pm and lasted until around 10 pm last year, then everyone went down to a local pub and shared a few cold ones.

Hmm... assuming Vikash and I can rewire my IAC valve, my car will be a little more interesting at the shootout...

Ya, cool. Sounds interesting.
My car hasn't been running right since it broke down the other week.
It's noticably slower and I don't know why. It's running like a dog and just doesn't have any oomph like it did. I'm so busy and broke that I highly doubt it'll be near as fast as it was for the Feed and Speed.
Oh well, I'll still race though.

Maybe but I don't think that's it. I also noticed that if the car sits a while that I get a puff of smoke out the tailpipe on startup.
I really hope that when my car wasn't running right and kept stalling that I didn't burn a valve or toast a ring or something. It's scaring me. It's weird though because my car runs great and smooth except when on boost, then it runs good still just not very fast.
If this ends up being a big problem then she may go on the chopping block yet.

I hope Scott does race. I feel weird using the third person, since you're probably reading this too, Scott... so, I hope you do race, Scott. There.
Even if it's just babying the car down the track. Lots of people will be doing that.
Matt, don't say things like "chopping block." I certainly hope Subarina doesn't catch wind of it! She might off you to protect herself!
What color is the puff of smoke?
Do you know anyone with a compression tester? If you're honestly concerned about the motor itself, a test with a $20 compression tester seems like the right place to start.

blue-ish white. It doesn't always do it and I've only seen it in the rearview mirror. I need to have someone else start the car so I can see (and smell) it close up.What color is the puff of smoke?
Ya, you're right, I just don't have the cash for one or the time to do it. I've promised my wife that I would lay off giving Subarina so much attention, Jen's getting jealous. I'm worried she may off Subarina just to get more time with me!Do you know anyone with a compression tester? Yeah, frustration is understandable...
A little bit of white "smoke" happens a lot on cold startups... I think a lot of it is actually steam from condensed water or water left in the exhaust system from combustion.
I was just hoping you knew someone who already had the tester, so testing would just take a half hour of your time -- done during the spark plug change process.
But for your own sake maybe you should indeed just turn the boost down and put your car aside (since you can't afford to put any money into it right now anyway) and hang out with your family.

I don't know if Scott will race or not. Scott's hearing a definite clicking coming from the driver's side axle now, noticed it driving by a median the other day. Magen isn't really road worthy with a bad axle and Scott doesn't have the cash to have it fixed or a place or all of the tools to do it hisself. Magen is a dirty little bitch and needs spanked. Scott....ok, I sound like a lunatic.
I haven't really been on the board lately. I've been busy looking for a job and playing FF XI. Man, that game's addictive. I hated it at first but now I still hate it but I love that I hate it and hate that I love it. I have an interview today for a job I'm not totally qualified for but I hope I get it. It's looking doubtful that I'll attend as I have to watch every dime I spend. I haven't even been eating very much.

Compression testers can be bought for cheaper than $20. I have one, but it's no good to you up here and shipping it back and forth would be like buying a new one.
I hear you all on the money situation. I'm thankful at least I don't have a family to worry about.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

When I started it this morning it did it again and it was a lot of smoke. I jumped out and smeeled it and it smelled like burned oil too. I turned the boost down a bit but I can tell something is wrong. It definitely isn't running right. I think it's either valve or piston related.vrg3 wrote:Yeah, frustration is understandable...

Ya, the Shootout may be Subarinas last hurra, maybe I'll just see how much boost she'll take before she completely goes. But for your own sake maybe you should indeed just turn the boost down and put your car aside (since you can't afford to put any money into it right now anyway) and hang out with your family.

Steve-Thanks, ya it wouldn't be worth sending it. I might see if my neighbor has one.
