Subaru #6, and Rio Red to boot!

For only $433.

Just needs a little work.

I plan on yanking the engine, rebuilding the heads, new rings and new clutch for the wife.

Then I get the wifes car for the donor motor for fixing up for my currently tweaked rig. Or at least a better option if mine has a seriously tweaked cylinder.

Anyway you look at it, I got a screaming deal. Or so I believe. It helps if you have all the tools and no fear of motor yanking.

I say pull the thermostat, burp the cooling system, fill it up and drive it home with some extra coolant in back and the heat on. If the heat goes cold, pull over and re-burp. I bet it'll make it just fine if you live somewhat close.

Wow! A steal for 433.00. Body looks pretty tight too. I wish I could find a another clean sedan for a doner car.
Great find!

I will get it either thursday night or saturday day. The car is about 60 or so miles away, so I am renting a u-haul thingy and towing it home with my van. It will only cost $25 in gas (man I love 9 miles to the gallon!)

I picked it up!

I got the better end of the deal I hope. Turns out the guy didn't burp the system I think. I havent got the car to overheat yet.

However, the throwout bearing is shot! So I still need to pull the engine to replace the clutch.

Car is in great shape for the $433 plus the $100 I spend picking it up.

Too bad I have to give it to my wife.

Haha, that's great! I hope it works out that the engine is golden. :)

I wish I could get a nice Suby for that price, I might need one if I have to rebuild the SS.

After a small freeway run, the car drives and runs like a $550 dream ($433 plus pickup costs). Cranks straight up to 80 mph on the on ramp, brakes are new, BRAND NEW radiator, full tank of gas, 80% tires, WORKING air conditioning and the damn thing is not overheating!

I don't think I technically screwed the guy I bought if from, considering he was convinced by a mechanic it had a bad head gasket, put it up on ebay, and was happy to get the $433 (he was convinced he would only get $150) but I do feel a tad guilty in the conscious department.

However, it is all in the risk/gamble end view. The gaskets could still be bad, the clutch could go tommorrow, and so on.

He needs to stop going to that mechanic. He's gonna get screwed sometime.

There are more symptoms to a blown headgasket than just overheating.

It gets worse/better.

I think the guy himself burped the car. Since I got the car, I have had to put only a LITTLE water into the system. If memory serves me correctly, when i picked the car up and inspected it, there was water/coolent on top of the radiator, as if he had just topped the sytem off that day. I suspect that when he overheated and then drove to the sleazy stupid mechanic, and then drove home, the thermostat finally opened up and let some water down into the block. Then when I was to show up, he filled her up for me.

Wife sure likes the car. I KNOW his wife would be angry if she were to hear about this little mistake on his part, she was the one to mention that she would miss the legacy. Maybe in two years I will somehow let him know what a suckass mechanic he went to.
