16G install

Post by dzx »

First part of installing the new 16G is done, all that is left is the piece that goes from turbo to throttle body. That part i'll finish tomorrow with two pieces of copper. It should work fine until the front mount is installed. Only problems i ran into were, the screws holding the turbo to the downpipe. The last guy who worked on the car got a little happy with the impact wrench and managed to strip the grade nine nuts. Ended up having to borrow the neighbors acetylene cutting torch. It took 35 psi from the torch to cut through the nickel nuts. All in all, it was worth it to save the 250 dollars flat4engineering wanted to install it.

Ok, the installation is done, i'll take some pics on monday and post them. The car isnt that much slower at 5 or 6 psi than it was at 10 with the stock turbo. The lag is kinda nice as i think i could get better gas mileage when not getting on the boost. I can tell its gonna be a monster when the boost is turned up and the front mount is installed.

just FYI the deadbolt enterprises TD05 is cast with the 90 degree angle and the turbo is indexed so it can't be easily clocked. Feel free to correct me if im wrong but mine had a peg on the insided holding the two sides in one place. I ended up just using some 2.5inch copper pieces and intercooler hoses from a volvo. hopefully i'll have time to put up the pics soon.

So if you had a top mount it would bolt right up and everything would fit? (exept the coolant tank) How much lag is there?

Unless your launching, the turbo doesn't start coming on till about 3000 rpm. You'd have to ask matt aka legacy92ej22t or phil BAC.5 about their top mount installs and the work they had to do.

Thats not bad on the spool up. Is the turbo outlet horizontal pointed at the drivers side? if it is it would work with the AWIC or older TMIC with the factory turbo to IC pipe. I just want to know what to tell the guys that don't want to do too much custom work.

Yes, it's horizontal. It will also allow you to use the MY02+ OEM WRX TMIC and Y-pipe. :)
