So, just got back from my buddy Brent's house.

I've now got a nice, shiny, TDO5-16G sitting where the stock VF11 was.

Install went well, sheared a bolt off of my uppipe (that still needs to be fixed), but other than that, everything went OK). Oh, we also dumped just under a gallon of coolant, lol. No worries though.

Started it up, stalled out. Figured it was just air-intake-cleaner in the turbo (I wanted to clean some of the crap out of it).

Reved it up and let it run at about 2k for a minute or so, then it was fine.

Went out on the street, waited until a main road, and gave it some gas in 2nd. About 1/2 throttle and 10psi and I let off. I was scared. I've never been in a car that has pulled that hard, it was sick.

I got a bit more ballsy, and hit it WOT in 2nd gear to redline. Brent was in the passenger seat, and he was grinning ear to ear. Holy shit. 15psi to redline. Woah.

Then, for the real test. 1st gear to redline, 2nd gear to redline at WOT. I smell low 13's .

If you weren't expecting me to hit it, you would not be able to lean forward. It's outrageous.

Off-boost, the car feels MUCH better. With the VF11, it was struggling to cruise at 80mph without going on boost. Now, I can cruise and accelerate to 95 without going on-boost (which I really like). The lag keeps me out of trouble too, and is going to help my gas mileage eventually

We started the install at about 12 o'clock noon (it took Brent about 30 minutes to pull it from his 98 Impreza w/ an EJ20G) and fully expected it to be done and out the door no later than 3. 3 came and went, so did 4, so did 5 (Brent called in an hour late to work). Then 6 rolled around (Brent decided not to go to work, and he's quitting tomorrow). 7 rolled up, then 8, and 9. Finally finished just before 10pm. We hit a lot of snags, but once it was all done, and once it finally RAN properly (my car runs better with the bigass turbo than it did with the VF11), I couldn't help but do the cabbage patch.

Wen't for a test drive, ate some dinner, drove the 60 miles back to school. Tomorrow I've gotta adjust the boost controller (I was hitting 18psi on the highway, and I am NOT comfortable with that, lol. I want to run about 14 or so). I've also gotta adjust my BOV (compressor surge, it's a little to tight). Then drive to the Shootout, and hopefully snag me a 13.xx timeslip.

I'm extremely pleased with the turnout. I've got pics that I'll get online soon. I didn't really take that many, as my hands were FILTHY, and Matt took better pics. I WILL do a writeup, as I encountered several things that Matt did not, and I was on a time-frame and had to do this now or now.

It wasn't HARD, just tedious, and we were getting frustrated. But it WAS nice to see it completed. Money very well spent IMO. We'll know for sure on Saturday.

Seriously. . . might also want to consider a higher-capacity BOV if you can't adjust out that compressor surge. Remember. . .you're moving a shitload more air, now. Whatever BOV you have on there may not be able to deal with it in the end.

I've driven NEW cars that don't feel like my old leggy does. I have this immense newfound love for my car. It runs correctly, and it only gets better from here. Just gotta be careful.

It RIPS with the LW flywheel and grabby clutch. Just friggn LAUNCHES! I can't wait till it rains .

Do you have any kind of instrumentation to see how safe your boost is? At the least, the scantool displaying oxygen sensor voltage?

I cannot wait until 3 pm tomorrow when I can get a ride.

Was the port-and-polish job on the compressor, the turbine, or both?

I'm thinking the WASTEGATE got ported. . . that's something that almost always has to be done on Subbies to prevent boost creep.

Refresh my memory, Phil. . . .you're using that divorced-ported DP, right? Jesus. . . that and the ported wastegate must make for a perfect match. No wonder it's pulling like a mother!!

I extensively modded the VF12 BEP too, so there is NO leakage. I'm using the CES Dual Dump stainless and ceramic coated downpipe.

It's got a mildly ported hot-side, and a ported and polished cold-side. I was curious as to why it was so much smoother than the VF11 was.

The VF11 is TINY in comparison. The 16g is sooo dope .

Vikash, to answer your question, no. I've just got the boost gauge. I have also only gone on-boost a total of like 3 or 4 times. I want to indulge, but I want to make sure it's all safe and such first. Check your G-mail.

The last thing I wanted to add was to see if we could split the Turbo Timer "saftey" wire. It's supposed to tie to the E-brake. E-brake drops, car shuts off. I want to rig it ALSO to the clutch switch (or whatever the switch is that you have to engage before you can actually start the car), so if you press in the clutch, the car shuts off. Possible?

Should be able to wire both of those, Phil. Currently, if my clutch (or brake pedal) are pressed after I've set up remote start (like a TT) while the keys are out of the ignition, it kills the engine, immediately. I could ask Tim (my installer) how this was accomplished, but it IS all tied through my Cliffor alarm system.

Far as I can tell, Phil. . . . you're just looking at some grounding options to accomplish the two tasks you have.

I pretty much felt the exact same way you did when i installed mine and ran it, except i havent had the boost past 8.7 psi, and probably won't until my fmic is installed. I'll probably get my rev limit removed until i get a new ecu once i turn up the boost.

BWuhahahahahaha, that's tight! I got a call last night from Phil gasping for breath (probably from giggling like a little school girl), " O M G, this thing is pulling sooooo hard! " The whole time I can hear Brent giggling in the background. At one point I think Phil shifted and they both gasped and then laughed like kids at a Toys Are Us shopping spree! It was great.

I can't wait to get a ride later today. It's sounds like it's running good.

I just wish my car was running right so we could line up and settle things once and for all!

Congrats Phil! I'll never forget the time I took you for your first ride in a 16g turbo legacy. The look on your face -

I don't know about low 13s, tho. My guess would be mid to high-13s, with a pretty good launch (non-tranny-grenading). I think the car has more potential in the mid-upper rpms with bigger injectors (the stockers go 100%IDC at 12psi starting around 4000rpm).

Larger injectors and more boost should bring you to low 13s. Front mount intercooler and higher boost should break into the high 12s.

And for the record, if you think the car hauls in first, second, and third, just wait till fourth. Fourth gear was the strong gear in my car back in the day. Any run-ins I had with other cars the result would be to walk or run away in fourth

Phil - Yeah, it should be possible to wire it that way.

I once helped a guy wire his remote starter so that it would shut off if you put down the e-brake, touched the brake pedal, touched the gas pedal, touched the clutch pedal, or put the transmission in gear. So basically all you could do was steer standing still.

thats asome dude. personly im lookin for a vf39 for my car. still cant decide if i want to cut up my front bumper fit the ic. not to be pesimistic ( spelling) but i dont think 13s unless your at sealevel which you just might be over there on the east coast, but my friend has a gc8 with a full ver.2 that lightened to the teeth and he only got mid high 14.s and diped into 13s once but then again im at 5000 ft.
