My car is done!!!

Post by jake15 »

aside from a few problems (no spark) the car is done. its been a long, long road but its definetley worth it. i've only driven it a little but it seems to pull harder. cant wait to mod it more
well pic time.

this is my WRX coolant tank, i need to make a metal bracket for it, right now its held on by zip ties  8)

Image

Image
this is the reason i cant run recirc, so i'm hoping to pick up a turboxs type h rfl soon

Image
this was my fix for the turbo-throttle body hose. so far it works great.

Image
i had to plug the vaccum line for the bypass valve (now blow off valve) so it wouldnt stay open at idle. but this bov wil be replaced before i drive the car anymore.

Looks great, Jake! Do you have any plans to dyno once you're done with the power mods? :P

Did you remove the hood pading? Is it just there for sound?

It's also supposed to smother engine fires -- it's meant to fall down from the hood when exposed to a flame.

And it's supposed to keep the engine bay warm when you park so that there's a better chance of the engine still being warm by the time you start the car again.

Mine fell apart a while ago... a replacement is like a hundred bucks, which isn't too bad, but I haven't replaced it yet. I've definitely noticed the engine cooling down faster since it's been missing.

Scott is right too.

Ever see cars with the clearcoat peeling off the hood? Most likely, they had a cooling problem, the engine ran HOT, and they didn't have a hood pad.

I've got one in the 94, I didn't have one in the 95

The turbo and non-turbo blankets are different, since the turbo one has to have a hole for the scoop... it might be possible to cut it open, but I don't know; there may be some kind of engineering that goes into its shape.

It's also very hard to remove one without damaging it, even if you're lucky enough to find one intact in a junkyard.

$100 seems to me like it's worth it for the protection and fit of a new blanket... I just have to save up.

Jake - I think you should try to find or make an adapter that bolts onto the BOV flange and has a 3/4" hose fitting. It looks like if you use a 3/4" elbow you could have it point towards the passenger side of the car and have the hose go over the throttle body.

Thanks, Laurel; I'd appreciate that. The shipping zip code would be 14850.

Very nice Jake!

I'm sorry if I missed the discussion elsewhere, but let me see if I got this right: This is a 90 Legacy that became a Legacy Turbo through the addition of a turbo front bumper, hood, and spoiler, and of course an EJ22T , then had a TD05 installed, with what I believe to be a USDM WRX IC??

Two thumbs up! Very impressive!

Can you give more details on how you mounted the WRX coolant filler tank? Do you think it'd fit there on an ABS car?

I think he has ABS Vikash. Look in this picture by the hood prop and you'll see the ABS unit.

Oh, huh... I guess I was just not looking closely. It just looks like there's a lot more space in that part of the engine bay than in my car.

yup, the car has everything but a sunroof. went from a 90 std fwd legacy to a 91 turbo awd w/o a sunroof. the coolant tank is just wedged+zip tied in there until i can scrounge up some metal to make a bracket, but yes there is enought room, and there would be more room with a aftermarket air filter. it still has a problem ,brakes, but hopefully that will be worked out and i will be driving it by the middle of october  thanks for all of your comments guys.

My engine bay has the purge canister in the location where that tank is...

I'll deffinately be changing out my coolant tank to a wrx one due to the brass fittings that are on my tank.

the purge tank is still there... just in front of the coolant tank, if you look in one of the pictures you can see the lines coming from it.
