car has 111k on it, clutch was replaced with OEM parts by a subaru dealer at 70k
the car hasn't been driven a whole lot in the past 3 years, and the clutch pedal requires WAYYY too much pressure.
does the clutch cable need lubrication periodically? cause, that's about the only thing i can think is the problem now.

Hmm, this is odd. NemisisEJ22T was talking to VRG3 and I about something similar. His stock clutch is significantly harder to press than even my clutch (Exedy Stage 1 w/ 2400lb pressure plate).
Granted, he's on a Hydro clutch and you are on a cable clutch, but it's odd that both of you have the same problems.
That said, I've got no ideas
.
I doubt the cables need to be lubed, but perhaps something is nore broken in properly. I know that when I've driven 5-speed cars that have sat for a while, it's always been hard to push the clutch.
How hard is WAYYY too much pressure? I can't really judge how much is too much, because in my eyes, there is no "too much pressure." I remember my stock clutch, and Matt's and Vikash's and my new clutch is significantly stiffer. I can't imagine a stock clutch ever being as stiff as my car is.... Unless it's sat for quite some time.

There's no lube. It's about as simple a system as you can get. I don't know what the problem could be if the car still drives fine.

the throw out bearing rides on the snot of the transmission. if there is no grease there, or the grease cakes up, it will inhibit free movement of the throw out bearing and cause for a stiffer clutch pedal.
Whether this is your problem....I couldn't tell you.

i've noticed this on mine, but i've also noticed that it squeaks when i depress the clutch. What about that spring at the bottom of the pedal? does that just force the pedal back and/or give resistance? or can it be replaced for something softer/newer?
try looking at that spring, there, first.

spring at the bottom of the pedal doesn't do squat.....it's really an interesting setup. The spring sort of helps the pedal in the downward stroke, but also helps it on the return stroke. However the amount of assist is pretty much zero in terms of the pressure plate force. it's there merely to return the clutch pedal to the correct position.
Remove the clevis pin on the clutch setup, and you'll see what I mean.

back from the dead! but i've got the same issue on the 92 legacy i just got. the clutch is super stiff. the hydro on my legacy is like butter and the 02 wrx is stiff, but good god! the 92 is really bad, and i'm a pretty strong guy (mtn biking, snowboarding) so i have the leg muscle. the other thing about my clutch is it's not even, its easy at the start, then really stiff, then easy at the end, but when the pedal comes back its smooth. the cable was replaced before i bought the car. any idea's?
