No car for 1 day makes Ryan Something something something...

Post by georryan »

How do you guys put your car down for any leangth of time??

I broke an axle and now I'm waiting for cvaxles.com to ship me a replacement. I miss driving it soo much after one day I've seriously considered pulling the axle out of hte wheel side boot and pulling it out of the car. I'd be going rwd for a week, and I'm not sure how good of an idea it is, but man I miss driving it already.

I'm not sure how you guys deal with putting it down for a month to do swaps and whatnot.

Get an extra "spare" car. The wifes 90 sedans clutch went out today. So we fired up the extra 90 wagon. I will have to find another extra soon though, as I am parting out the "extra" wagon as soon as I rebuild the wifes engine and replace her clutch.

How did all those posts happen after Art's and nobody said...

Don't mind if I do!

But, yeah, I've never had my car not running for more than a couple days, and it was always painful.

If your car's a 5-speed don't try removing the axle. The center diff isn't strong enough.

Did your axle actually snap?

Nice, someone actually knew the context of my title :)

No the axle didn't snap, but it was clicking real bad, and when I pulled out the ball joint, I must've streatched the axle a bit too much. I didn't disconnect it from the tranny, and when i tried to put the knuckle back on the ball joint I realized that the axle shaft was poking the cv boot on the wheel side. So I rotated the wheel and the axle flopped around. I tried to get it back in with the help of Brian, who showed up to let me borrow a punch. We couldn't get it back in, so i decided now was a good time to stop delaying on getting a new axle.

Thawa: Yes, I still have the sable.....that's what I'm driving now. It makes me REALLY miss my legacy. Its amazing how much tighter my steering wheel is, stiffer my suspension is, and how much more torque my boxer engine has over this 3.0 v6. Not only that, my car has a lot more milage. Not to mention the sable is an auto....I'll refrane from commenting (or talking about how I almost fell asleep driving home.) :P

In defense of autos, my Nova was an auto and I loved driving that car

Can you drive the Sable to a pick-and-pull and get a temporary axle?

How much longer for CV Axles to get your CV to you? Sucks that you had to go more than a day. I wouldnt try to drive it in RWD cause the lack of resitance from the front end might mess up the center diff.

Actually I'll get in these moods where I don't want to drive it.....I just want to drive a normal car, not worry about it, not deal with the car.....just be one of those people that drives a car from point a to point b (albeit faster then others)

Guess that's why I have the truck

When my car was down for a week with no brakes and then not fun to drive for another week because of the cv grease flying everywhere, I almost went insane. And this was driving a 2002(i think) RSX with a stereo and everything.

ther are 3 people that live in ny house. all of us drive and we have 5 cars. we started to cut back and car pool. it was down for a few weeks for the transmission and a few months after the wreck because i didnt have the funds to fix it properly nor did i ever so now it still kinda looks like ass. i only drive to the bus stop now wich is a mile away and durring the summers and winters esspcilay i dont drive it. summer because i work with my parents at their resturatn and we take 1 car and in the winter because i have no tread on my tires and dont want to spend money on something as frivouls (sp) as tires that will sitll barely pass saftey inspection.

AHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!! I MISSED my car! My axle showed up yesterday afer work so I got to work on it right away. I pulled off hte bad axle, and decided that since the axle was off, I had a good opening to my downpipe bolts. So I decided now was as good of a time as any to take off my downpipe and put on the gasket I had left off origionally.

So I pulled it off and put the gasket on, then tried to reposition it in such a way that it didn't bump up against the crossmember in the back of the tranny. I think I did that, because I don't feel it doing it anymore and haven't heard it bump at all today.

I then put in the axle and got it all bolted up. I then went to work on the ball joint on the other side. Holy crap, after all the problems I had on the passenger side, the driver's side was a cinch. I had it off in five minutes. I just put the pickle fork on there and and gave it some torque and then banged on the bottom of the ball joint nad it popped off in like 3 hits.

Oh and Brian, disconnecting front endlink I think was the kicker. Made things a lot easier :)

I can't believe how much I enjoy driving this car. haha
I think that my exhaust sounds a little different now with the exhaust, but in all honesty, it is probably just the fact that I've been driving a sable for the last week and a half.
