I'm really tired of these hurricanes

Post by entirelyturbo »

Okay, this is starting to get depressing. Looks like that dumb bitch Jeanne finally figured out where she wants to go, and we appear to be her destination. Schools closed AGAIN Monday, numerous weekend events have been cancelled, including a Ferrari show at Sebring Raceway tomorrow that I had plans to attend , and every other aspect of our lives is interrupted again, even though we haven't recovered from Charley and Frances (a subdivision close by me hasn't even had their Charley debris picked up yet.)

I'm seriously thinking at this point that once I finish my college education, that I'm hauling ass. I don't know exactly where I'll go, hopefully my career will be a good guide. But I don't want to put up with this anymore. Orlando itself hasn't seen hurricane-force winds in 20 years, now we're getting 3 storms in 2 months???

Maybe it will turn at the last minute, hopefully pull an Ivan (Josh, you might wanna get ready for him). But chances are it won't, and another weekend will be completely wasted.

Be glad a lot of you people shovel snow, it can't be this miserable.

We get no serious natural disasters here (even the hurricanes are simple storms when they get here), but the weather changes by the minute and one of my exes who lives near Orlando hated it up here. It's really damn expensive, too. If you want to live near the water (within ten miles) you're looking at a minimum 300k for a shitty house that needs work.

UGH.... I know what you mean... At least I am pretty much in the middle of the state... but that doesn't help much... Florida is a pretty narrow state.

Our roof still has a hole in it from that bitch Frances. We got the permit to fix it this weekend and we already have the insurance check, but now we have to make plans for Jeanne. I just nailed the tarp to the roof today so it doesnt get ripped off. It still reeks inside due to the wet ceiling. Gonna paint over it with some Kilz once it all dries up.

Don't be so quick to move out of Florida... The last time four hurricanes hit the US in the same season was in the 1800's... and that was in texas. Give it a few years, then see how it looks.

BRING IT ON JEANNE! Just don't hurt my car

I feel for you man...

All the chats we had about FL vs. Canada.. and how much I hate the snow and winter, well You're right I'd gladly have a heart attack shoveling snow then have my ass blown into the next county.

4 is quite unbelievable really.

Very true... I still like living here though. If you move to Florida DO NOT buy a mobile home. Thats where most of the death and destruction takes place. Its getting windy here and I have a feeling the power is going to go out any time now. Time to go take a shower before the power goes out.

Well, I actually had a couple friends, a dog, and a sick bird, over at my place, they spent the night last night and they're stuck here again tonight with our curfew till 6am  But it's no biggie. We had a little DC/AC inverter thingie which allowed us to run a few things off a car cigarette lighter (a radio, a laptop, and a lamp), so we've been burning CD's and drinking booze all day :D. Power went out for about 8 hours, I've been EXTREMELY lucky with my power situation through these hurricanes, some people went for 2 weeks without power from Charley.

So everything's okay, Patti rode the storm out in the garage (she rode Frances outside), so Ginger is outside, a few small branches bonked her hood but no damage!

Its not over for me yet.... We've been lucky. We have been without power for a total time of 1 1/2 minutes throughout the day. But the winds are still strong up here and the lights dim occasionally. All it takes is one tree to fall on a line, and power is out for a while. I hear stuff hitting the roof too... Too many trees around here. My car is safely (or unsafely) in the garage. :?

DAMN! The power is back on now, but we have no high speed internet or cable. It Probably has something to do with that power pole that snapped in half a ways up the main road. We're lucky we have power.

All I have is dial up on this laptop with AOL 6.0 :(

Traffic lights are out, trees are all over the roads, streets are flooded... Its Frances all over again. The roof and yard is a mess again after I spent all that time cleaning it up from Frances. No trees fell on the house, but there is a pretty big one in the back yard that is bent to the side now. I'm waiting for it to fall and crush the fence.

I feel bad for those people in south Florida that got it much worse than we did up here. Anything up near 75-100 MPH, things just get scary. They got higher winds than that even! Ever put your head out the window of your car while going 100 MPH?

Here's a pic of my car after going through all sorts of mud puddles from the torrential rains we had here.

But in case it isn't blatantly obvious, look at all the yard trash everyone has :(
