4EAT sliping in 3rd? Holds gear and stays at 40 MPH
Well my mom got another 92 LT from a local seller. My mom wanted to keep this car since it remided her so much of her first LT which was smashed by an old man.
I brought this car up to college didnt drive it and then took it back home.
WHen I was driving it I noticed that when I would get on the gas at highway speeds it would build up on the RPMs and then they would just fly up slam back down and gain slowly. So at like 3000 it would slam up to 3500, then slam back down to 3000 and build up regularly.
I was talking to my mom on the phone and she said she has not been driving it, but she did take it for a short trip and when she got on the free way it would not shift and she could only go about 40 MPH.
I was just wondering what a regular cost for a rebuild is. Or if its not a rebuild how much do you think would be a decent price to repair it.
Thanks
Dustin

I wonder if the brake band is adjusted too tightly, and it's not shifting. You may want to look into that first.

Thanks for the help.
Does the Hanes go over how to adjust the brake bands?
I have no idea what color the fluid is since I am not at home.
I posted on the local board on NASIOC, and everyone said its impossible to find a place that will rebuild a Subaru trany in Boise.
What all does a rebuild kit come with? How hard would you say it is? Does it come with instructions? What tools will I need?
I am guessing I would have to get a trany cradle. I have torque wrenches, jack stands, a good jack, and a 200 pc tool kit from sears.

Kit comes with seals, gaskets, and clutches. You can get the steels as well. Tool...The only special tool i use was a snap ring tool. No instructions but you can find the FSM online. I would says it's a 9 out of 10 on hardness. Just because you have to get everything right for it to work. Not much room for error. I had 2 other trannys to look at to compare and make sure I had it right.subiekid wrote:Thanks for the help.

just to let you know adjusting it is a pain, I'm not sure on the exact size, buit you need a very small open ended wrench for the top, probably 6, 7, or 8 and I believe a 10 mm for the lock nut, might be 12 or 14 though. Also it's pretty hard to find, It's right under the firewall, I think a lil behind on the driver side. If you search for one of my previous posts about brake band, i'm sure you'll find it, I explained it more indepth there.

yeah you can but it is hella hard
it'd be pointless to remove the shifter trim, this is up by the firewall.
