is it necessary for a forum to have 20+ sub-forums?

This is for non-Subaru related topics. Keep it realistic please.

Post by TheSubaruJunkie »

LegacyCentral isnt as bad as most of them, like iClub or Nasioc. But forums that have a hundred sub-forums, in my opinion, make it very hard to keep track of new threads and topic's. Maybe its my BBS background, but I believe in the K.I.S.S mentality (Keep it simple stupid).

I find it hard to keep track of LC.o's bbs, and preffer my native board, the USMB which has 1 Forum for Pre-EJ series, and 1 forum for anything EJ (and EG). I noticed LCo has a large fanbase, and didnt know if I was the only one that felt this way.

take the poll, let your voice be heard! :)

I think it helps organize things. I like the layout we have, and I find NASIOC easy to navigate when looking for specific answers to things.

If its a forum im at all the freakin time, like legcen, i like fewer forums. If its nasioc, and im there cause im bored or because i want a specific answer that i cant get here, i prefer many forums.

I like it like it is. I think the opposite of the USMB. Over there I'll respond to a post in a thread in the NEw GEn forum and come back later and it's buried 2 pages back because of the traffic. I think the layout here helps keep topics in their proper spots, well, when they stay on topic that is. ;)

Yeah, the USMB has never been a feeding ground for the newgen guys... not with iClub, Nasioc and LCo out there. Its easy for a thread to end up 2 pages back in no time. I guess I see the validity in that :)

I like having a specific forum for each subject. When you have only a few forums it just throws everything into one place and makes it hard to find info you need. That's just me anyway. It also depends on the board. If you have subjects that can be clearly segregated it will work better than if everything can go in different forums. Like if we had a picture forum and if we had a video forum. Or a for sale forum and a wanted forum. there's no real need to segregate it that much on this board, larger boards yes it makes sense. Also the top forums are technical forums only so it makes sense to have them setup like they are.

Try doing that at a much larger site, like NASIOC or IClub.

Or what about finding information, when you can't think of proper search parameters, and just want to browse?

I agree with Hardy, specific forums is very helpful when keeping things organized.

The topic of this thread is different than the question at the head of the Poll. It makes answering the question kinda difficult. I chose "No" in response to the question directly above the Poll. I think the amount of forums here is perfect.

I use the bignose method as well. That way it picks up every post since you last checked the site. That wouldn't work for a larger forum like i-Club or Nasioc, but it works GREAT here!
