Tis true, she'd never be where she is if it weren't for the Matt. Started me on my path to destruction.legacy92ej22t wrote:Nah, it's just got the good goodies on it.A CES TBE and 16G? That's one hell of a combo my friend.
Plus, I blessed the car with gofastedness and holy water (Dasani)!
I've just dubbed part of my bank account as the "special project" fund. A portion of my earnings will be going to this fund to get some insanely go-fast-goodies on the car. Well, not ON the car. IN the car

Ok, just so everyone knows, thawa. The road that glassjaw and I "raced" on was a stretch of road where no people are even allowed to walk. Furthermore, it was in the evening and there was no traffic in front of us and very little traffic behind. It was a straight stretch, two lane piece of highway with no threat to other motorists. So before you start preaching about what's safe and what's not I suggest you get the facts straight. The difference is huge to me. I wasn't barreling through town at 60 fucking mph or anything it was like 100 ft. on a barren stretch so relax. I think it's getting blown WAY out of proportion. Oh, and it's not cool, Steve, to laugh at people dying.

You realize that any place along that road could have a huge pot hole, or a bunch of nails, or SOMETHING in the road that could easily cause you to lose control of your car. It's not all about there being other people in the road. Maybe a bird flys down right infront of your windshield, maybe a cat darts across the street. Just because there's noone else there doesn't make it safe. And it doesn't matter if people arent allowed to walk there, someone still could be there. You aren't allowed to street race but you were doing that anyway now weren't you? You have to see the bigger picture before you say racing in on surface streets is okay. It's not getting blown way out of proportion, you think you're safe when there's noone around, and you're not.
There's no reason to call me out just because you were doing something stupid. You need to look back on the situation with a different mindset.
Before you even try to ask, yes I've done some dumbass shit like this before, but I'm not going to try to defend that what I was doing was safe. It wasn't, and it was stupid to do.

I'm on First and First. How can the same street intersect with itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe.

It's cool when the asshole nearly kills innocent people because he's a dick and can't drive. Another guy suggested more appropriate action would've been to stomp his head, but I figure a slower death crushed under the SUV he used as a weapon was more appropriate. Either way, I wasn't there - I take the other direction to go home. Apparently he wasn't wearing a seat belt either or he probably wouldn't have been thrown.
And Hardy, those things can happen on the highway at legal speeds, too. And people should only avoid moose and deer - anything else you can crush. People try too hard and get in accidents to avoid stupid animals. I think that's more dangerous than speeding. We have lots of squirrels and chipmunks around here.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
I wasn't going to ask actually. I don't think it's stupid at all, silly maybe but not stupid. It was a light to light jaunt. I drive that road everyday and I feel that I know it pretty well. I realize that you don't know me at all so I'll take that into account but I think I'm capable of deciding what's safe and what's not. If you really want to get down to it, I stopped "racing" when I got to third gear. I wasn't even breaking the speed limit, man. It's 45 there. Ok, maybe i was going 52 or even 55 but this incident is not what you're making it out to be. Glassjaw exaggerated it a bit anyway. It wansn't some huge faceoff or something. As far as potholes go, so what if there was a pothole. It was night so no birds were out. It's not like I'm going to veer into him becuase something suddenly flies out in front of me. I drive on roads that are heavily populated by deer all the time. Just driving out these backroads is far more dangerous than a light to light jaunt with someone in two low horsepower automobiles. Christ, I've been driving for 17 years.

Oh come on now Hardy, this is kind of pulling at strings.THAWA wrote:You realize that any place along that road could have a huge pot hole, or a bunch of nails, or SOMETHING in the road that could easily cause you to lose control of your car. Any of those things could occur if driving in a completely legal fashion. A cat could jump out on the highway when your driving the legal limit of 70mph (I had a friend cream a deer at 70mph while driving along on I-81 at night). You could hit a pothole while accelerating to the legal speed limit (there are speed limit laws, not acceleration laws. I could do a WOT run to the 65mph speed limit if I so desired. If I HAPPENED to be doing it next to another car who was doing the same spirited acceleration, would it be any more unsafe than if I were alone? Not in the terms you mentioned. Just because it's "legal" doesn't mean it's safe.)
I mean, a bird could fly into your winshield when your 13 seconds and 110mph deep in a 1/4 mile run at your local drag strip. Hell, I have a video of a Viper nailing a bird at 150mph during a road race.
No, racing isn't smart or safe on public streets. But there are some of the same risks on private tracks.
While I'm not condoning street racing, or trying to downplay is dangerousness, I'm simply offering up a different view. I realize what I did was silly, but so what? No one got hurt, and it was harmless. The only people who could have potentially been hurt, are those involved.

Hmmph, street racing. What to think about street racing.....Well, in my view it can be really dumb in some instances but it can be OK in others. I've done my fair share of street racing. At no time was I ever out of control or did I ever do it in an unsafe area, IMO. I also don't like to pull to excess speeds. A first through 2nd pull, light to light on an empty road isn't that big of a risk in my eyes. I mean I pull hard to redline regardless if anyone is next me anyways. Anyone that has ridden in my car can attest to that fact that in general I don't really speed, I just accelerate full bore up to speed. The same can be true of a 40 to 75-80 3rd gear pull on an empty stretch of Interstate. I don't think that's really very dangerous either. It's like passing a slow moving vehicle.
Now, that being said I believe that street racing down crowded streets is dumb. Street racing light to light on a cruising strip on a Friday or Saturday night is dumb. Going top speed chasing each other through traffic on the Interstate, backroads or city streets is dumb. Oh and by the way that last one is how most death and injuries occure from street racing. Well, that's my take on it.

Yup. I too can second that one. July 2nd i was in a similiar situation, where this 1st gen suburban, (lifted, very high CG) was trying to race me on my way to work. He ended up passing me to rear-end a car, and sideswipe a carpet cleaning van(also unstable), driven by a mother and her eight-year-old son. I slowed down to help out, and there were injuries so bad, they both had to be airlifted out.legacy92ej22t wrote:Going top speed chasing each other through traffic on the Interstate, backroads or city streets is dumb. Guy was still drunk from the night before, and he was just an asshole. Good street racers know when to hit the brakes.

Well, whatever, I really don't care if someone else approves or not. If a person can't be reasoned with then they can't be and that's the end of all productive discussion on the topic. I don't think it's a big deal but I guess I'm lame, I'm not cool or whatever. I'm a big bad street racer, lol.
