Birthday Present :)

Post by BAC5.2 »

My buddy Jay hooked me up.

He's giving me his stock WRX TMIC for my birthday :)

This weekend, I'll begin the tedious task of figuring out how to install it.

Just gotta work out the BOV. Thinking about having my mechanic weld a bung to a plate and set it up that way.

Not really sure how I'm gonna get it done actually. Might stealthify it, and have my BOV vent under the IC or something. Just have it tapped into a short pipe.

I dunno, I'll have to get it and then start monkeying around.

Just thought I'd share. Goodbye SAAB IC. Anyone want to buy a 10 core or an all aluminum?

Save the 10 core for me if you can Phil. :)

That's sweet that you're getting a WRX TMIC. With your 16G's compressor outlet you should be able to go with the samco hose. That'll be sweet.

Coool.

I might be trying to fit in my WRX top mount intercooler this weekend as well, when I put the TD04 in. Maybe we can collaborate.

I'm gonna have to fit it all up and see what to do about the BOV.

Will do Matt, I'll give you dibs as soon as I can get the WRX IC working :)

Vikash - Indeed. Call me up and we can meet up. Perhaps Monday or Tuesday? I'll have the Walbro fuel pump then, and I'll have the IC too.

Yes, perhaps Monday or Tuesday. I also have a Walbro pump somewhere... maybe we can do those together too.

As for the blowoff I was going to try a couple things... One is a nylon barb fitting with 1" NPT male threads. The diameter of 1" NPT threads is very close to the diameter of the hole in intercooler's BOV flange. So I was thinking of trying to thread it in as far as it would go and then sealing with RTV silicone or Goop.

The other option I was considering was looking for copper pipe fittings with the right outer diameter, and finding some sheet or plate steel that I could cut to the right shape. Then I could cut a hole in the steel and solder the copper on.

Remember, I have that bling bling BOV that prevents me from using the pipe.

Might have Rob weld a bung to a short peice of steel and use that as an intermediary between the turbo outlet and the IC gatherer.

My buddy is also holding his 02 WRX hoodscoop until I can afford to pick it up off of him.

But you could do something like what I'm saying if we can find pipe with a 1" outer diameter, no?

Nah, I need 1 3/4 IIRC.

I think what I am going to have happen is get Rob to cut me a peice of steel, then bend the pipe I need. Weld it up and have it set up that way.

Its kinda hard to describe what I'm thinking. I'll describe it when I can show you.

Matt - I wish you still worked down here. It was cool having a "legacy-meet" every week or so.

just to give you a heads up... its not easy, at least it wasnt for me. i found this very difficult and its a PITA to get on/off. if you have the money or can save up some money, go 94-96 wrx i/c or a front mount. here is some pictures link i have to take the throttle body off w/the intercooler as there is no way to take it off like on a wrx. you also have to beat the car a little. if you have a wrx mounting kit for you hks bov it should just bolt right onto the i/c, i have a turboxs type h on mine now, and it fits fine.you can bet as soon as i can get enough money i'm going front mount. i'm not trying to mess with your head or anything. just putting in my 2 cents. but if you are going to do it, pm me if you need any help

Oh yeah, that's huge, Phil.

Thanks for the offer, Jake.

If it's hard at all I'm probably just going to keep the Saab setup for the moment.

Lol, with the amount of customization I've done thus far, I think I'll take a risk on the install. Just need to get the IC in place and start working things up.

thats the "customizing" that you will need to do. that mounting thing wont fit between the i/c's metal pipes on the bottom.
