Humm... Can we say .. Leak ? :)

Post by morgie »

I Think my oil pan is leaking a little bit :) (Or, maybe not, oil seems to come from higher above the pan... crank seal ? notice the oil on the heat-shield, over the manifold... )

(we can see the manifold leak on that one... not a good place for a quick-fix :( )

And this is my Passenger-side head... seems like my valve-cover needs a new gasket :\ )

When replacing valve cover gasket also replace the rubber "Washers" that go over the three bolts.

actually that looks like it's leaking from the oil pump area or main crank seal.

The pan gasket is prob in need of changing too....but I would venture to say the other two need to be replaced.

that looks very simaler to mine when I had to change the front crank seal/cam seals/oil pump gasket. I would look into that, although its kind of involved, its not to hard if you are decent at mechanics, while in there, might as well change the t-belt and water pump too, since you have to take all that off.

So i changed that seal today with a friend ...

The screws on the back-plates of the oil-pump were all lose, and there were very few gasket between the pump and the engine-block... that's where the oil was coming from ! :)

Also, the Driver side Cam was 1 thoot Off ! 1 thoot counter-clock wise...
so i arranged that.

here is some pics of the process.. 2 other friends came also to that "Garage Day" ... one changed his bumper and the other painted his calipers

To be continued tomorow... whe change valve-cover seals and engine mounts.

valve cover seals now replaced... was a real piece of cake to do ! hehe

Engine mounts were not fitting... the 2 bolts that bolts to the top-plate was in the wrong angle ! The stock ones are like this " : " and the ones i bought are like this " .. " I think i have to buy the top-plates too.

(pics updated)

car runs very very very smooth now that i have corrected the timing of the right cam. (no more "jolting" at low 400rpm idle, and 5th gear 120km/h full-throttle accelerations...)

That was a nice week-end project ;)

now, I have to find an intercooler and install my electric module ! (wish i'll have time this week for the module)

Thanks all for the ton of infos, couldn't have done this without this forum !

My OEM "gel-filled" mounts from the dealer cost $330, but they were the single most effective repair I have yet to make to my car, the knock sensor being #2. The personality of the car was revived with the new OEM mounts.

My point: They're worth it ;)

The Gel ones cost 150$ each here, and are softer than the full-rubber ones, that costs 35$ each. :)

that's why i've choosed the rubber ones.. but seems to be something missing ;)

Morgie,

Did you replace the grommets on the valve covers as well?

How was your timing off on the one side, did the belt jump a tooth?

I would like to get new engine mounts too. I'll have to look into the different kinds and what fits.
