Blowby...

Post by BAC5.2 »

Driving home today, I was driving "spiritedly" and on shifts, I noticed blue smoke blowing out of my hood scoop.

No oily smell, no smoke when idling.

There is oil residue on my hood from where I vent, and there is residue in my HKS BOV.

Ideas of where it came from and why?

I think it's because of the increased flow that the 16G causes on the PCV system. I was getting it really bad too. The 16G pulls more oil up out of the block and valve covers causing a large increase in oil residue on the PCV parts and in my case the DV. For you I can totally understand how it would vent some oil out of your BOV.

Hmm...

Interesting... Perhaps I will investigate this further, or better yet, put the BOV post-IC when I get the WRX TMIC.

. I noticed a little pool of oil in the intake of my turbo when i was working on it a few weeks ago. Some days i'll start my car and it will smoke once then be done. I think it can build up inside your I/C and decrease the efficiency of cooling also. You might look into getting a catch can and tieing it into the four hoses that come off the heads. I had a DIY catch can tied into the double plastic pipe coming off the intake but it wasn't doing any good in that location.

How did you make the catch can?

I don't want to spend like $100 on some can from Greddy or someone.

As soon as I get the part I need, I'm going to a WRX TMIC.
