need some tranny help

i own a 91 legacy L and running a auto at the momment its front wheel drive so could i still drop a 5mt in it with it still being front wheel drive any help would be much apriciated :roll:

do u know what tranny i should use and i thought all the 5 mt were for awd if so do i just put a cap over the end or what?

you can get a 5spd FWD. They were readily available in the legacies. Just search around for a FWD 5spd.

i found a 92 legacy 5mt could i use that or does it have to be 91 ? im still alittle confused about the awd thing cuz if i find the tranny for my car would it still be awd or did they acually manufacture fwd trannys for the legacy?

fwd tranny's were made for almost all models of subaru's from 1969-1997 Legacy included. That said you can use any fwd tranny from any legacy impreza or svx if you so desired.

they shouldnt be, fwd and awd sales were pretty close in the early 90's

i found a bunch of FWD trannies today from a used auto parts supplier down the street from me and none of the tranny's were 75 bucks im not sure where you got that price from but none of the junk yards around me were 75 either the lowest FWD 5mt at my local used auto parts warehouse had 50k miles on the tranny and they wanted 650$ for it they had alot with 50k miles on them but the lowest miles ones which was like 37k was like 700$ one guy at a pick and pull junk yard wanted to charge me 1000$ plus he didnt know the miles and i had to take it out i told him he was out his dam mind lol :x

yea ok but whats the miles on the tranny are they in good shape the ones i found looked brand new cause they pull them out clean them and put them in a warehouse besides im not driving to mary land to a pick and pull for all i know those trannies could have 200k miles on them before they were junked :o

umm.. i have one that's in ok condition, that i'm willing to let go for less than cheap.. but you'd have to come get it, or something, cause you're in georgia, and i'm in washington.. otherwise, i'd let you have it. Mine is a 91 FWD 5MT. I can tell you that any tranny that old will definitly have some bushing problems, and most certainly will need the synchros looked at. Just get as much info as you can on the trannys first, and then make a decision..

oh yeah most deffinitly alot of the ones i found were remanufactured ,i try to get as much info as possible the guy told me he could get remanufactured the cheaper ones were used
