Bov Question
I am installing a WXR TMIC with stock BOV. Where is the stock BOV on my 91 ej22t? I think it is right under the elbow from the turbo to the intake but I am not sure. If this is it can I plug off the return to the intake and use the vaccum line off of it to go to my WRX BOV? Please give me some guidance. I am also having problems getting the IC to fit. I think I have to take off the left side intake on the IC and just run the right side. Even then this joker sets right on the frame on the engine compartment. Sorry fellas just a little frustrated and looking for answers.

You also may have to remove the ignighter as well as it is attached to the firewall right where the TMIC gets jambed into.

ok
Great info thanks I have moved the ignitor but still have a lot of other issues.
yes you're stock bov is connected right underneath the turbo-to-intake pipe. i dont know how to make the stock WRX bov work, the trottle cables are right in the way. i just went to a aftermarket bov on mine and it works great. pictures can be seen here

I haven't installed the WRX intercooler in my car yet, but I made up an adapter to hook the stock Legacy Turbo blowoff valve to the WRX intercooler. I went to the hardware store and picked up one of each of these:

I popped the hole out of the center of the plate, cut the whole plate to the right shape (drilling two holes for the bolts), and soldered the copper elbow on. Brazing might have been better, but silver bearing solder's what I had at the time.
With such an adapter and some 3/4" hose it should be possible to use the stock blowoff valve.

great
I believe that the WRX BOV will work but you have to hook up a vacuum line to the top side.
nope, it wont. the stock wrx bypass valve is meant to be open at idle, if you plug that line in the bov stays open and vents out all your metered air, causing it to think the engine is running at a higher rpm than it really is and injecting more fuel, which cuases it to be really really rich

they only way it could work is if you figure out how to put a plate around where the bypass return tube connects then run a pipe from that to where the stock bypass valve connects

If you vent to air it will run really rich and possibly have some compressor surge. When I ran an open air WRX BOV it constantly ran rich and I heard fluttering when I let off the gas. I don't recommend using the stock WRX BOV. Also our cars don't really like venting to air unless you have something to counter the richness.

If you atmospherically vent a recirculating BOV, it will remain open at idle, and the car will want to stall out.
I am venting with an HKS BOV and haven't had any problems in the few months I've been doing it. If I can outrun a Z28 Camaro from a 1st gear roll on, it doesn't seem to be hurting performance very much either.

when i was running the stock wrx bypass valve, it ran really really rich, rich enough to make the plugs covered with black stuff = no spark and my car did not work, so i highly recommend some type of aftermarket BOV thats closed at idle especially if you plan on ventint to atmosphere.

So far i'm enjoying my turboxs type h. Phil (bac5.2) seems to like his hks BOV. some people have used their stock bypass valve over by using some type of adapter, which also seems to work well.
