Noticed something different in my spool up this morning??

Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

Noticed something different in my spool up this morning??

Post by WRXdan »

Normally my vf11 spools like a scared little rabbit. It seemed like it was always spinning up. I just equated this to a small turbo. I re-did some of my vacuum lines this weekend. The old ones were super stiff and brittle. The turbo now spins up later and slower?? But to me, that seems more of how it should be. The PSIs are the same as before. The car pulls fine, it's just nicer to drive on the highway now?

Should I be worried?

Which lines did you re-do? Did you follow my diagram?

So you're starting to make boost at higher RPMs than you used to, but the same peak numbers? That's weird.

Is it possible that you had some small leaks that made noise, and you only think the turbo's now spinning up later because it's quieter?

I replace all the line I could get to, which is all but the small ones on the purge solenoid. I did one line at a time, but you never know.

It's like the waste gate got lazy. I kinda like how it is now....but if it's cause other problems like spikes and stuff then I worry.

Did you make sure replace the boost control lines with the correct sizes (5.5mm for the three big ones and 4mm for the small one)? It's fairly important.

Did you keep the restrictor in the bleed hose? That's important too.

Yes to the restrictor...but hmmm..good point about the size. I need to check. I bet that's it.
