"Stole" some 15" Aluminium Subaru rims today

Post by douglas vincent »

Put in a $30 max bid on 4 Subaru 15" Alloy rims with worn tires. Got em for $26. Lets see, thats $6.5 per rim? Not bad.

The rims do need some work, they are from the east coast and the outer rim of the rim is all corroded and needes some sandblasting and sanding and clearcoating to look new again. But we are thinking of sandblasting and powdercoating them bright red for my rallycross rallytires.. Still less than custom rims and look way cool.

Any even if we only just clean them up, hell, $6.50 a rim? Since I already have 16" WRX rims, I will give them to my brother for his TS Imprezza or give them to my wifes 90 Legacy.

Do the "Pittsburgh Ghetto Shine" on them... jack the car up, mount a wheel, start her up, and sand and buff off the corrosion as the wheel spins !!! Start with a file on the rim endge if it has been curbed. You'll see if they are straight that way, too.

Sucks to mount tires and then find out the rim has a lot of runout, later.

turns out they are also corroded/rubber attached horribly on the inside of the rim where the tire contacts the wheel. ALOT OF WORK is required to make them nice. Not a great deal after all. I might still take them to a wheel guy I know and have him clean them up on his lathe if less than $100 to do all 4, then powder coate them red for my rallycross tires.

Take a wire wheel to them on the end of a drill.
