My 1994 Legacy Turbo

Post by Subaru_Nation555 »

Here is a link to my gallery of pictures of my '94 Legacy Turbo. It is an automatic with 115,000 miles on it. This car was my Dad’s until I inherited it last year. I wash it once a week and perform all the basic maintenance myself. In the future I am going to swap in a TD05, perform some suspension upgrades and get a pair of WRX wheels. Enjoy. :)

Your plate's SOOB-SS! Cool; mine's S00B!

Is that you hugging the car? My friend has a picture somewhere that looks kind of like I'm humping the front of mine... I was trying to shake the car to help air bubbles out while burping the cooling system.

Your car looks really nice. I like the way the driving lights are mounted.

I think a TD05 would go really really well with that 4EAT. If/when you do swap it, hopefully I can help.

You should get some corrugated tubing or something to put over that driving light wiring.

That black LS/LSi looks really sharp too. Whose is that?

Nice ride!

The TD05H-16G would definitely be a good choice. I would suggest a TBE, IC and a 255 FP at the least though if you do it. :)

I mounted my fogs almost exactly the same way. Great for moving people aside.

He has the 2E system since his car's got a 4EAT.

Yes, the TD05 is sweet. I've said before that I feel like it's the turbo our cars should have been equipped with from the factory.

Which ABS unit is better? I have yet to hit ABS in the dry. Hopefully that will change very soon.

Nice looking ride! Those lights look super cool mounted like that. Ideally, I'd have a removable bar that holds two lights in that exact spot. Maybe someday. You certainly give me hope :D

They're different. The 2E hydraulic unit is a little simpler physically, but functionally has the same capabilities. But the 2E computer is connected to the TCU, which allows the TCU to optimize MPT clutch lockup during ABS operation. Hehe. I sound like an FHI marketer or something. "Optimize."

I like those lights on both of your cars. But just wondering:

Subaru_Nation555: Are those driving lights or fog lights? What brand are they? Do you like how they work?

Same questions for you, Steve.

I didn't realize those were fogs, Steve.

On top of the bumper isn't really a great place to put fog lights... fog lights need to be mounted low to work well. That hasn't stopped some people from making not-useless fog light setups with high-mounted lights, but it's certainly suboptimal.

Driving lights work pretty well there though.

They are Hella 500 driving lights. They were only $70, you get what you pay for. They are def. bright and do a decent job. Sometimes there is some glare. I am happy with them though

I'm not sure whos it is. I was driving around looking for a good spot to take some pics and it was just there, so jumped at the chance. It does look nice, I was kinda hoping that the owner would see me and come say "hi" but they probaly would have been wondering why some random kid was photographing their car. :D

Mine are Hella 500 fog lights. I mounted them up and made adjustable standoffs (with long screws and rubber stoppers) behind them to vertically adjust and hold them so they aim low and splayed out slightly (to illuminate corners better). They were very effective for their height and I need to get them remounted. The reason I put them up high was to protect them from snow and other problems. I also like how they looked.

So. Steve, are your fogs mounted on brackets that are anchored behind the grill?

Now that I take a closer look at them, they have the yellow lenses, don't they?

Yeah, yellow. Sorry I don't have a better picture in digital format. They're actually mounted through the bumper cover to the bumper beam with spacers between the cover and beam so the cover wouldn't get pulled down where they mount. I had to partially remove the bumper to do it and I don't recommend it.

I had to take the lights off because the body shop couldn't figure out how to remount them right after I got it painted (after I told them not to touch the front bumper for that reason) and they were loose. I removed them before they could fall off and so they wouldn't bounce like a ricer.

Subaru Nation, how did you mount yours?

I just drilled the bumper. The bolts Hella supplied in the kit were too short so I paid a visit to da hardware store and got some longer ones. I used a wider washer because the form in the bumper was too soft and the nut kept sinking into it. I used some rubber washers between the bumper and the mounting bracket. Ideally I would have incorporated some type of bar so that I could remove them if need be, but now there are two holes in the bumper. I don't foresee removing them any time soon.

That's funny - seems almost exactly what I did except I used metal washers where you have the rubber ones and added the standoffs to keep them from bouncing.

Before I bought the Hellas, I really wanted 4 lights to mount on my yakima rack. I decided that it was probaly illegal and I couldn't afford 4 lights. Plus I think they look cooler on the bumber 8)
