Auto Dimming Mirror and Compass
I was browsing some subaru site and they had the Genuine Subaru auto dimming mirror and compass for sale. It is either standard or an option on newer Subaurs. So I was wondering if anyone has one in their car? Is there a way to get them to work? It seems that all they need is a power source and a way to be attached. Any thoughts?

Some guy around here has it.. i think totech, i forget. but yes, you can fit any auto dimming mirror you want. I know the one that I'm thinking of had one from a GM, so just about anything will work.
I wanna do it too, as more people are getting obnoxious headlights, now...
You're on the right track, yes. Power source and mounting place.

I was thinking of putting one of those on my car too... Auto dimming is a nice feature on my dad's Audi.
My only concern is that I haven't tried one of them myself. From what I understand, every manufacturer implements the auto-dimming logic slightly differently, and some work well but others are frustrating because they don't do what you want. I know the Audi one's good, but the Subaru one might not be.
If I remember right, the Subaru mirror actually has three wires -- +12v, ground, and another wire going to the reverse switch that inhibits dimming when the gearbox is in reverse.
The mounting mechanism is different. New Subarus use a camlock dealie attached to the windshield, while ours have this other kind of mounting thing on the headliner. But I see no reason you couldn't find a camlock base to epoxy to the windshield.

haha well I'm six foot so I guess I might have the same problem. If I can get a used one or something I'll give it a shot. I am confident that I can make it work. I just dont want to spent $180 for a new one.AWD_addict wrote:I'd opt to rather not have the Subaru auto-dimming mirror and compass. It is a bit bulkier than a normal mirror and it noticeably blocks my field of view. I'm 5'11, BTW.
I've only driven with it in an Outback, if the seat is lower in your Legacy it probably wouldn't be so bad.
