Intercooler problems

Post by dzx »

I finally got around to installing my piping for the front mount intercooler and i've noticed the engine seems to stumble when im accelerating from a stop, like the air is having a hard time getting through the piping which it shouldnt be. I've also been popping joints whenever i step on the gas and bring the pressure above zero. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Bead roll all connections, double check hoses, and use hump hose for all bendable connections. That should help you keep the joints on the pipes when you get on the gas.

You are using a Spearco core, right? What method are you using to get rid of air (i.e. BOV)?

Sounds like the stumbling would be caused by a rich condition. You converted to cone filter? Keep the MAF screen in, and have about 6" of straight pipe in front of the MAF between the MAF and the cone.

Do you have pics of the setup? That might give us some insight as to what's wrong.

I haven't converted to the cone yet, it should come in the mail tomorrow with the adapter to keep the MAF. Right now my greddy type s is venting into the atmosphere and i plugged the inlet on the intake because i didnt have any hose to connect it. Maybe that is why its stumbling. I'll pick up some hose tomorrow to recirculate the bov.

i dont know what abs you have if you have one at all but i dont know with what room your gonna be able to put 6 inchis beween the maf and cone that and if you have the big abs unit the adaptor plus cone might not fit unless you get the flat custom k&n

Tighten down the adjuster on the Type S, if you havent already. Also try double clamps on the connectins that are popping off. The stumbling is almost definitely air leak, do you have black smoke when it happens?

For some reason the stumbling went away after i drove the car a couple times.

I get a really loud whistling noise tho when i come onto boost and i cant figure out where its coming from. Could it be coming from the bov? It definately gets people's attention when the turbo whines up and the car screams by then goes chhhh like an extremely loud sneeze. I cant imagine how loud an rfl bov would be. Probably drop people at the bustops when you drove by, bleeding from their ears.

I blew off my last pipe the other day, hunted it down and wrenched it up so i think im good for now with the piping.

So is properly assembled piping. Have the pipes bead rolled, clean them, and use T-Bolts instead of worm drive clamps. Also, use proper hose to connect them. That helps a lot.
