Check it out man!

Hey there is an extra input for either tach signal or injector duty cycle. I was thinking of hooking up the injector cycle, what are your thoughts?

I have it on my 92 turbo and its a good unit, looks great and it has good display too. The only hard part is hard to tune it , other then that this is a nice unit. I have this unit on my car for 2 years already.

hey ej22t, did you connect the rpm monitor or the injector duty cycle? There is only one input so you have to choose between the two.

Well I started installing this thing yesterday and did not get too far. Like always I have to make some fancy bracket to mount everything. I needed a place to mount the solenoid and pressure sensor that was dry and away from heat and still close to the turbo (kind of an oxymoron if you ask me). Anyway, I found a spot between the right front strut tower and the firewall but I needed to make a little alluminum bracket. It is so great having a full machine shop to work in. I have the bracket basic shape made but I still need to drill and tap the holes so I can mount the solenoid and the sensor to it. Then I can mount the goods and go from there. I'll probably work on it more this week after work at night in the shop.

Hi Mike, sorry for the late reply, I connect the rpm monitor to the ECU, for the duty cycle I follow as the manual stated and connect as they recommend.
Let us know your setting on the AVCR so I could see how was it run on my engine, I could gives out my setting if you like to have a try....
Good luck

Mike, if you have your hood scoop open you'll actually get a lot of rainwater coming into that space between the strut tower and firewall. I know I do.

If the solenoid and pressure sensor were designed right they should be able to handle a little bit of moisture and heat.

You might want to actually mount them where the stock boost control solenoid goes on the front of the passenger side strut tower. You can get rid of the solenoid and replace it with a resistor. If you can use its original mounting points I think that'd be really slick. And since the stock pressure sensor and boost control solenoid are in the same spot anyway, you know it's a reasonable location.

hum.. interesting but I already spent over an hour making my little bracket. In the future I do plan on making a fiberglass diverter for the hood opening to the saab ic. Imagine a rectangle mounted to the underside of the hood that transforms into a square to meet up with the ic when the hood is down. Basically so all the air is forced through the ic instead of getting thrown at it. With regard to the rpm or the duty cycle. The apexi only gives you one input like I said before. so I can only monitor one of these. I think I'll connect the rpm so I can at leaste take advantage of the rpm based boost. I dont know

I would think it would be able to use the injector signal to infer engine speed... Don't some people connect the tach input on their remote starter to an injector when they can't find an ignition coil?

That is true BUT, I think that the avcr uses it to calculate percentages or something. I'm going to check and find out exactly what it is doing with it. Until then discussing its use is fruitless ;)

You can mount your avcr similar to how I mounted my S-AFC in my old legacy. It sat right under the radio (I had an aftermarket unit). All you need is one of those stereo installation kits (I believe it was for an integra). I think I posted some pictures of the interior here in another thread.

If you haven't finished the installation already, you should post some pics or a DIY.

Finally got this thing installed last night around 9 ish. I will write up a full diy when I have some time. I'm at work right now but I'm a bit busy. I must just say that this thing is pretty cool. it has enough cool gauging gizmos to satisfy anyones need for flashy lights. The plumbing was a bitch but the wiring was a piece of cake (thanks the Vikash's ECU wiring diagram). I have a preliminary boost setting in there of about 12 lbs. it sucks because it is in some japanese units of kg/cm2 which is like bar but not quite. 1kg/cm2 is equal to 14.22334 lbs where as 1 bar is eqaul to 14.50377lbs. Pretty close but still different. I'm going to fine tune it tonight so it is set to .85kg/cm2 which is just over 12 lbs (12.08984 to be exact). This should be good. There is not a way to show lbs vs kg/cm2 which sucks and you can only display km/hr not miles/hr which sucks also.

when I set mine at .85 it was difficult to stop it from spiking to .86 where I would hit the fuel cut... so watch out for that.
Its amazing how much it affects the spooling time isnt it?

Well tweaking this thing is still a work in progress....I have it set at .80 and I had the duty cycle set pretty low as I am flowing a ton of air with the vf34. I had the duty cycle set at 23 I think. I had it so that I was at full boost by the end of first and through all gears at wot. but then the unit started to "autolearn" and it would not go to .8 anymore it would max out at like .7 ish I've been working on adjusting the auto learning curve by rpm up and down as needed to creep back up to .8 I have noticed that I hit fuel cut anywhere past .8 wich is less than 13 lbs. hum...interesting
