92 Turbo Sedan 5spd Buying Advice

Hello, looking to buy Subaru number 11! But only other turbo I have owned was a GL-10.

I am looking to get advice on purchasing this car or not.
It is a 92 Turbo Sedan. 185k 5spd. silver
Good
Runs strong & shifts good, handles great, no shaking, etc.
Bad
- Smoke from Turbo side of motor? There is also cv joint clicking on that side so not sure if joint grease or oil? Could it be turbo seal or something else problematic on that side?
- Body damage, hood front clip issues.
- Interior has a few issues, need cleaned up.
- Brakes need pads all around

Other wise ok car. They want 1500 I offered them 500.
What would be fair price for a turbo in this condition. Or does the smoke mean turbo issues?

If you can handle the body work, then you have a steal on your hands. The smoke could be from a valve cover gasket leaking onto the up-pipe or a turbo issue. Getting a used turbo shouldn't hard at all, upgrading to a larger one would also be easy. A brand new 16g can be had for $700.

Approx anywhere from 50-200$ I'd say.

If the smoke is inside the engine bay it's not going to be a turbo seal. With a turbo seal you get a huge smoke cloud out of the exhaust. And I mean BIG smoke.

So I'd say you are looking at the same thing a lot of us have, a leaking cam seal. It sits close to the turbo and I think it gets cooked enough that most leak some after ten years.

You can get the turbo rebuilt for $200-250, so thats the most it should cost you.

I'd say its most likely the front or rear crank seal.

Depends on which side. As usual, the driver side is harder. The rear i think you can just unbolt the place nad get at them, the front you have to take off the cam sprockets, which means timing belt
