Anti-rat-that-crawled-into-the-snorkus-ectomy PHOTOS !!!!

Post by professor »

Was finally doing the routine maintenenace on the legacy, plugs, filters, etc. Thought the air filter looked unusually filthy, with what appeared to be feathers or hair stuck on the bottom in good quantity. When I went to wipe out the air box, I saw a big lump of something in the bottom, so I pulled it out with pliers.

I thought at first it was a bird carcass but a bit of probing revealed it to be a rat carcass or perhaps another rodent of the same size.

I'll take the digi camera home and post pics tomorrow.

The car does run a bit smoother but I don't think the rat had anything to do with that !

Hahaha, that's nasty! A rats nest in the snorkus, yet another reason to remove them. :)

are you serious? How can a rat just crawl up in there and stay for any period of time? At all?

Quite serious. I don't know how long it wanted to stay in there, but it certainly stayed too long :D

I've seen mouse nests nearly everywhere in cars, from tailpipes to vents to engines (after crawling all the way up the tailpipe, through open valves and into the cylinder), which is why it is prudent to cork tailpipes when putting cars to bed for the winter.

I suspect this rodent was there from out west where the car came from, it was about weightless and dry as a bone. Rodents just love little tunnels.

Not automobile related, but at my parents house, a mouse crawled up behind the control panel of the stove. He stepped across the wrong (or right) terminals and electrocuted himself. We are not sure how long it was there when we found it. As we were painting the kitchen, I moved the stove out of the way and discovered it. Must have been gruesome, but I'm pretty sure it had been there for years.

Yeah, mice do love tunnels. In fact, I've been told by people who own pet mice that the best way to catch a mouse that's escaped is to lay a roll of gift wrapping paper in the middle of the floor and just wait. Mice can't resist going through the tunnel; it works even better than food or nesting material as bait.

You removed the airflow modifier? Dude, that's an essential part of the intake system. I suggest you put it back in.

That's absolutely disgusting.
