Help to diagnose tranmission whining noise

Post by maxelrod »

HELP! '99 forester with AT 107K mi. when accelerating at about 25 mph high pitch whining noise is coming form the transmission area. It stays on loud at seeped.
When I remove gas, noise is reduced substantially. In general noise follows acceleration, or load and disappears at slow speeds. This is my 1st Subaru, so no idea where to start.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
BTW, Transmission oil looks red and full.

Hi, I have nearly the same problem with you... I talked to the service and they told me that the reason was a worn gear (Mine is A/T and the problem occurs generally in D position). They also said that it is not very important, and that gear will have to be changed when it becomes useless after many many kilometers. Be careful with your transmission fluid.

Regards.
