Rear wheel hops on slow turns
Just picked up 91 Legacy for cheap, when I make a slow turn, like a U turn in a parking lot, the rear wheels skip. I put the fuse in the FWD socket to disengage the rear diff and it still does it. Could the diff be the problem?

I rally-x'd my turbo and no I'm getting the same thing, ahop in the rear in tight circles and reverse. My mechanic says it's the extension on the back of the tranny. I'm wondering if the M/T on the n/a legacy would interchange. Anybody know?

It's my understanding that only the 91 turbo had a LSD. If this was an automatic (god forbid) I would replace the clutch pack. My tranny guy had never seen a M/T do this.
I guess 245 miles is a lot to expect out of the tranny.

Are the wheel circumferences the same from front to rear? Take them off and wrap a tape measure around the tires. Are they the same? Don't rely on the size marked on the tire. I have two pair of tires, same size, diffferent brands, one pair measures 75.5 inches around the other pair is 76.5 inches around. They all have about the same amount of tread on them.

It looks like its the center diff. I found a core tranny and I'm gonna swap the tailpeices. The dealer even had the gasket in stock!!
I post results later.

I think I may have a similar problem, or maybe this is normal? I noticed it when I was making a turn on a gravel parking lot. I decided to make it happen again and watched the rear wheels with the driver door open. I stopped the car and turned the wheel all the way for a tight left turn. I then drove in a circle at a real SLOW speed and the left wheel would kick gravel every few feet as if it was trying to catch up to the other wheel. The inner wheel is traveling slower then the outer wheel when makeing a circle but I thought the diff was supposed to take care of this by slipping. I then put the fuse in the FWD socket and it made no difference. I think tomorrow I will try the same thing on pavement, maybe the gravel did not give enough resistance? (This is not an LSD.)

The diff I used was a slightly newer design and did not work. I cleaned the old diff and threw it back in. Boy it's great to have a lift in garage..
I had completely drained the tranny from the plug and from the tailpiece. I really dont know what I did but the problem does not exist anymore.
I think at a Quarter million miles subies become haunted.
