strut rubbing my tire

Post by gordini »

i just installed 17x45x225 tires on my ss and they are rubbing the cone on the strut that holds the spring. We went at the cone with a hammer and that seemed to give enough room but in tight cornersi can here the squeal. do AGX's have the same shape cone?? If yes, than what should i buy, or do, to rectify the problem. Maybe spacers?? Please Help!!!
:( thanks

225s are pretty wide for these cars. You may not have much choice other than to decrease wheel offset either using spacers or using different wheels. Doing this may also require you to roll your fenders, and could upset some of your suspension's balance.

Spacers could do it. What offset are the wheels you are using? I assume the rubbing is in the rear?

they are gold uk wrx rims, which are 55 offset. Its only on the back right side that they rub. Im thinking a 5mm spacer in the back would do it. DO you think i would need no lugnuts or would the stock ones be long enough?
thanks alot guys :D gordini

Are those wheels 17x7.0 or 17x7.5? That really stinks that they rub! I really want some 17's. as big as I can get them, well to a point. But I got a lot of others thing to do first...

My Rotas were 17x7.5 with a +48 offset and my Nittos were 205/40-17. Never rubbed once, of course I never did get the car lowered :? ...

on the strut tower cone. We took the hammer to them to reshape em but it still rubs right were the spring is seated in the lip. The rims are 7" wide.
ciper, tell me, do you think 5 mm spacer will cause excessive wear on the bearings??

I totally missed where you said "the back right side"

Does it always rub or just on corners?

5mm spacers should be fine. 50mm is still quite a large offset.

Stock offset is 52mm I believe. Usually with larger rims you want to have slightly less positive offset. I have 45mm of positive on mine. I should probably have a little more, but I'm still on the orig. bearings. I've had wheels for about 70+k miles.

Ditto on the rotas, my Paradas are 205/45/17, no rubbing whatsoever before I lowered, then seom small issues it the rear (rolling fenders took care of that  )
