The E-type almsot killed me (PICS)
As the post states. There's no easy way to jack up this POS backbone-chassied-penis-looking sissy car. I'll spare you all the long story of jack and block shuffling and leave it woith this: Doing a brake job (inboard) including the calipers and parking brake problem diagnosis and removing the rear sub assembly ... Know where this is heading? The friggin thing let go on me (despite being held by the nuts I loosely threaded to the mounts that hold it to the chassis and having one hub supported by a jack) and crashed onto my shoulder and face. If it wasn't for the voice in my head warning me about it's impending fall (obviously I didn't heed well enough) and had had my head an inch or so further left I'd have lost an eye at best. Luckily my shoulder took the brunt from the coil over mounting bolts (big bruise, very sore) and the lip around the differential cage just cut me, but didn't crush me. If I had not put that jack on the other side ... Well, it's not death I'm afraid of (what the hell? I wouldn't have to pick it up), but as cool as pirates are, the thought losing an eye or having a disfigured face scares me.
Anyway, 7 stitches variously around my eye, twenty minutes of nausea and cold from shock (pussy-ass body!), and a sore-ass shoulder later I'm OK. The scars should even look cool - one right above my eyebrow (probably end up nearly invisible), one V-shape near the outside corner of my left eye, and a line below it.
Nurses were dudes (it ain't like friggin ER), but the doctor was pretty damn cute and there was a little flirting going on. Her sister writes for magazines. Despite the stitches, I have to say, with that and not shaving the last two days, I look pretty damn good! I was waiting for her to come back to ask her out (not maried), but they sent in an old woman to have me sign the release (d'oh!). Maybe I'll try to catch her when I get them removed.
Oh, and Jerry Springer sucks ass.

Hahahaaaaarrrrrrrr!!!1
Yes. . . go back and ask her oot!
Don't feel bad, Steve. My body was doing the same thing when I got my tattoo. The pain didn't bother me at all, but my body thought differently. . . heating up, sweating, and the nausia was caused BY the heating up, not the pain, itself. Anyway. . . it happens. . . just your body's way of saying "HEY! This shit ain't right!"
Glad you're okay, though. I mean, glad you're "okay".

Holy shit! Glad you're still alive Steve...
What I'm curious about is how you had the opportunity to work on an E-Type. Don't for one solitary second tell me that some cheap-ass took it into Pep Boys to have work done to it...
I think they're nice looking cars, but they pale in comparison to the svelte body of an XK120

It's the boss car - the guy who owns the marina. I went back to working on it afterwards and my boss (service mgr) thought I was crazy.
I'll try to get pics. Maybe tomorrow. Stitches come off Monday. Looking in the mirror I am pretty damn lucky. My shoulder is really damn sore and has some nice red, black, and blue markings ... that's got to be some national flag's colors.

Damn Steve, glad you're alright.
War wounds are cool and chicks dig scars.
When I had my finger crushed the shock made me all woosie and I even dry heaved! It really hurt but damn. It's weird though, someone elses blood and gore doesn't bother me but my own always makes me tweak a little. I can perform minor surgery on myself without problem though. Like digging glass out of my foot that was about a half inch deep with an exacto knife and tweezers. Now that was fun.

All you need for minor surgery is a bottle of whiskey and a towel to bite on. Yeah, scars can be cool as long as they're not horribly disfiguring, like a prosthetic face or something.legacy92ej22t wrote:Damn Steve, glad you're alright.![]()

Yeah, other people hurt doesn't bother me (unless it's one of the people I care about) and I never used to get shock as a kid. It's mainly only head wounds that do it to me. If I had just been hit in the shoulder or cut on my arm or something instead, I would've been fine.

eheh, glad you're ok. When I'm working under a car, I systemattically hump each corner, to make sure it's stable...
So, anyways, my new "family doctor" is my age, about 28 i guess. also my wife's doctor.. her last name is seamen.. well you can see where this is going...
oh, and she's hawtt. figure it's time for a prostate checkup.

The car didn't fall - the rear end in the foreground did. The mounts let go. Guess we'll add that to the parts order. The jack was under the pass side hub of the rear assembly. There's no other way to get this POS car up. The only jacking points were the control arm mounts, which had to be removed. The frame is in the middle (backbone chassis) where the wood blocks bridge over the exhaust (another PITA thing to make jacking difficult). Those wood blocks hold up tens of ton boats.

I get that everywhere I go.
F'n Matrix. Of course if I could use the resemblance to meet Monica Bellucci, I suppose that would be nice.

Fine. I updated my sig. Too bad I agreed with Smith (until he became an annoying parody in the last movie).
