how loud should the turbo be?

as the title says how loud should the turbo be?

on a stock SS should it be a sublte little whistle?

Bone stock, you can barely hear the turbo. A faint whistle at the most.

Aftermarket, it all depends on setup. My friend's WRX is running a VF22 @20psi, and it shreiks like a little girl. You can barely hear it over the gearbox though.

My turbo HOWLS because the IC is touching the firewall. It's outrageously loud.

From outside the car, my friends STILL sounds like a girl screaming, and you can't really hear the exhaust over the tranny until he's getting a bit aways. Sounds a lot like a Semi truck when they spool up. Mine sounds like a Jet (high pitched whistle followed by a soft-ish-spot, then a thunder cloud).

cool. it is a very intoxicating sound. very sublte. it was very hard to keep off the gas too hard on the way home. 70-80 happens way faster than my old car, the 90 N/A fwd.

most fun i had w/the radio off in a while.

i wonder why you cant hear the tubo on a DSM? i am guessing it is due to the location.

The DSM has the turbo at the FRONT of the engine bay. Ours are right next to the firewall, within inches actually.

I find myself not really listening to the radio tooo often, and I usually drive with the drivers window down so I can hear it

Mine with stock exhaust and a mug and an intercooler sounds very WHOOSHY not high pitched but like Whooshing air when I am in boost and more wooshing when I lay off the gas.

I'm not sure if it's audible from outside the car at all since I think the exhaust is slightly louder....

With the windows up and the radio off mine is fairly loud. Not that I mind, I love the sound.

I thought I was the only sick one that turns off the radio to enjoy the turbo.
Does anyone else like to go slow beside a semi off the line to listen to the turbo?

Stock mine wasn't even noticeable, with the romoved snorkus it was a faint Shhhh sound. With the TMIC it was a loud Wooosh sound. With the 16G it was an extremely loud wooosh sound mixed with a mellow whistle. Now it doesn't make any noise at all though because it just sits in my carport collecting leaves and dust.
