what the f0ck is this part?
what is this part and why did it just burn the fuck out of me when the side hose fitting broke off? i know it's for the coolant but is this a turbo only part or is it on other subies i can find in the junk yard?

That focking part is the coolant overflow resevoir, and yes it's a turbo legacy specific part.

Turbo only. It burned you because the coolant was hot.
WRX tanks are very similar, but mount on the passenger side intake manifold. I can't remember what needs to be changed with the hoses, aside from some lengths.
Edit: Beat me Josh!

They have a habit of breaking when you're working on other parts. Since they're just plastic, it gets brittle over time. You could try epoxy. If you check some of the other threads, people have posted fixes that worked for a while for them. You might try one of those to get you by long enough to get a new tank.
I unfortunately had to buy a replacement, because mine broke while I was out on the road. I'll probably look at switching to a WRX tank next year, so avoid problems with it in the future.

The WRX one is made of metal instead of plastic.
go to the last post on the first page of this thread and I have instructions on how to fix the tank. Hope it helps.

Whatever you do don't bother getting a used plastic one unless you have to
nylon gives about 6-10 good years as tanks for radiators, then it it brittle crap. After removing the rad on my Honda recently I wanted to see just how bad it was, the entire tank end would crack with the lightest hammer blow, all totally brittle and useless.
