Too much boost? for NA ecu?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

Too much boost? for NA ecu?

Post by douglas vincent »

OK, got the new beuatiful aluminium intake made from the supercharger to the AWIC. I now have a true clean 6 psi of boost. And the car stumbles horribly, especially in low gear when you first engage boost. At 5 psi with the crappy piping the car ran great. But with the extra 1 psi of boost, the ecu aint happy. However, the extra power from the psi of boost is there, just not anywhere near perfect. The further into the length of time the boost is on, the smoother the car runs. No detonation at all, just a feeling of bogginess all the while the car is accelerating.

I suspect the ecu is retarding timing drastically and then advanceing, then retarding, then advanceing, and so on. But I don't know for sure. I still don't have the J&S installed yet. Need to get my ass in gear and get the info from those guys on how to install into my old legacy ecu. I also need to install the 370 cc injectors I won on ebay.

Maybe it will fix the stumble, maybe not. Maybe I need to spend more money!

I'm sure the ecu doesn't like the boost one bit and is probably retarding timing something fierce. You should swap in a turbo MAF and ECU and see if it runs better that way. It might or it might not because it will freak out because of the missing sensors and fueling with the wrong injectors. Once you have the 370cc injectors in that would solve that part though. The turbo ECU will still want the pressure sensor and boost control solenoid signals though.

Rod ran with about 6psi of boost on an n/a ECU, however he did have other management for ignition timing, MSD I believe.

Make Vikash's scan tool and see what is going on with timing, knock sensor, etc.

Its the FUEL stupid!

So I drove it halfway to grandmas house and it was suffering terribly. Then I stopped at the gas station to fill up and re-hooked up the extra fuel solinoid I had disconnected awhile ago because of too much fuel.

Bamn!!!! Suddenly no problems! No bogginess or stumbling. So I suspect the 370 cc injectors, possibly combined with a 4-1 rrfpr will cure my ills.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Doug

I would try to get a turbo MAF and ECU to go with those injectors. It should run just fine on that setup.
