another hoodscoop question....

Post by schubaru »

got a hood scoop today from a '92; however my new hood is a '91 N/A... so... how hard will it be to mount this scoop? could anyone post some step by step directions for me? i looked into getting an aftermarket hood, but they only sell N/A's and i don't want to pay the dealer price.... help, anyone?

thanks.

Its not gonna be easy, stock style scoops are mounted in a recess in the hood... In other words you can't just drill a few holes and put it there, or I should say you can but it definitely won't look right.

If you decide not to mount it, how much would you want for it? ( As I am working with a fiberglas guy to make a larger hood scoop)
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

if i can find a turbo hood w/scoop; i'll sell it for the $30 i paid for it; if not, i'm probably just going to keep it and order a new hood from a dealer and bolt it on...

once i figure out what is going on; i'll get back to you through a PM.

Well, if you have a 91, the new hood will have to be from a 91, a 92 won't fit. 91 and 92 have different hoods and scoops.

Yeah, the scoops are different.

I have a scoop from a 91 that Eric at Tarmac sent me instead of the 92-94 one he promised me. Apparently he has no desire to make things right again with me -- he'd prefer to just keep yanking my chain -- so if you would like it it's yours for $25 plus shipping.

hmm... any chance you'd want to just swap it for my '92? otherwise, okay.. i'll take that one for $25; and sell mine to dscoobs for the $30 i paid for it. :)

is the metal piece under the hood that directs the airflow different too?

grrr... so many issues. this thing has snowballed so much since hitting that deer and finding out the '92 front end i was going to switch was all banged up.

Hmm, if your 92 is Winestone Pearl (burgundy), I'll take that trade. If not, I'd rather just sell this one to you... Shipping will probably be around $5 anyway so you should still just about break even selling yours to dscoobydoo.

I do believe that metal piece is different too. Your car should do fine without it though. Do you have a turbo model? If you do, just stick an intercooler in there to rationalize the missing metal piece. :)

can't ... feel... fingers... (outside installing headlight)

okay; i'll have to get back to you on the scoop... have a few more people to talk with (might get a hood with a scoop already in it).

scooby -- it's yours for $30+shipping.... do you want the metal piece too?

either pm me or send me an email.
