200hp and 200+ftlbs. List of mods + your input pls

Post by Drakar »

Ok I have a very stock 92 Legacy Turbo Wagon, EJ22T with the 4EAT. and AWD

Stock it is 160hp and 180 torque, I would like to get as the title says 200hp and 200+ torque from it, flywheel of course, and with very reliable and easy/bolt on mods.

It is a daily driver for my wife and I have done the following

Stock K&N replacement
Synth oil

Yup that's it, it has 66K km and a rebuilt tranny with 5K. So it's ready for some good stuff.

I have plans for the following.

3" DP with seperate wastegate, 3" cat 3" catback
Clean up the intake track ?Mugify?
Spark plugs and wires. cleaning up the grounds.
Synth oil into tranny and rear (recommendations?)
Manual boost control, only looking for maybe 10psi, (stock 8.7?)

Will that reach my goals? what else would I need to see my goals.

I would like to keep the internals and intake stock and left alone.

I have looked at the Saab TMIC but does it really help ? heat soak issues?
Any help is appreciated.

A saab intercooler would be better than nothing. I think you would probably have to raise the boost a little higher to get 200 hp tho.

Phil has a Saab intercooler with his TD05 16G turbo. His car is putting out far more than 200/200. Your goal should be easy as it can be done with an N/A (though not as cheeply): Saab or WRX TMIC, MBC to run a little more boost, possibly a FCD, but I don't know if you'll run into a fuel cut issue with the little boost you'll need to run. I'm sure someone with more first hand experience can chime in on this.

SAAB TMIC, MBC, FCD, and that'll do her.

Our exhaust is horribly restrictive, so any freeing up of that you can do would be good.

I would say that I was probably close to 240hp @ 16psi on the stock turbo with the IC, and exhaust being my only major mods (of course the FCD and the MBC).

If its a daily for your wife, Id leave the boost where it is.
@13psi, I can fill the tank a couple times a week.

An exhaust should help spool up time. Lots of people are quite satisfied with the "bell mouth" type downpipe, But a 3" straight through exhaust is gonna be loud, like ricey honda loud.

Why dont you try getting a MBC, and a boost gauge, and start from there.

A 2.5in exhaust would be fine for your goals.

So exhaust, MBC, and a few psi. See how that works then if it's not enough IC and more boost.

Indeed. . . hell, I don't have but a 2.5" exhaust myself, and my car pumps-out 300hp. A 3" exhaust would be overkill. ;)

This is great, thx

so a 2.5" exhaust MBC for alittle more PSI, and I should be near or at my goal.

I have a boost gauge already, so that helps. Im trying to up boost as little as possible, not of course counting out exhaust, Im just looking to not crank it up to achieve I more so (for now) want other pieces to bring it up, then I can work on upping boost once the players are in place (ie exhaust and so on)

ok looks like Ill hook up the Boost gauge and read up on the free/cheap MBC and see what that gives, then exhaust will be in the next 4-6 months.

thanks for the help anymore ideas is great.
