Problems with boost
I've been having problems with my setup, first i found that the bov hadn't been tightened down and boost was escaping that way. The second, I cant seem to get the turbo above 11 psi in first or second gear, in fact if i floor it off the line, i only get 6psi in first and second. If i roll onto the boost, i get about 10-11. When i had the bov leak, i pulled the line off the wastegate and was still only getting 10 psi. I think im gonna pull it off again and see if its my manual boost controller thats messing things up but i doubt it. Any ideas? Could my dirty air filter not be allowing enough air through? The thing is, I get over 15 psi in fifth gear.

That IS weird.
I get full boost in 1st through 5th. It's downright scary to hit full boost in 1st gear sometimes.
You might need a stiffer spring in your MBC.
With the weather getting colder, you REALLY should back down the boost though. Run wastegate boost only (bypass the MBC and just run the hose directly from the turbo outlet to the wastegate can).
A spike in the super-cold weather could cause some real problems. We are already maxing out injectors at 12psi, so the ECU can't richen up for the denser air.

Maybe you still have a boost leak? It seems plausible that a hose-to-pipe coupling might seal if you gently increase the pressure, but that it might open a little if you rush up to high pressure.
With all mechanical boost control methods I've tried, I always get more boost in higher gears. Even right now with just a spring between the wastegate flapper arm and the compressor housing, I get around 7 or 8 psi in first gear and around 10 psi in fifth gear.

Turbo legacy's don't come with a bov. They come with a bypass valve. If your from wales, you probably have an air to water intercooler. So I'm not too sure where the bypass valve is located on them. It recirculates into the intake tho so you can probably hunt it down from there.

It's not the boost controller itself cause when i uplugged the wastegate, i was still getting the same pressure.
I can't hear any boost leaks. I did put synthetic oil in the engine yesterday, then when i started the car up today it smoked a shitload for a few seconds and i noticed the bov had been spraying a good covering of oil under the hood so i changed back to regular oil and that solved that problem. However, still getting the same boost.

Maybe an up-pipe leak?
I don't really think so but I thought I'd throw it out there.
You should definitely get more then 6 fricken psi in 1-2 though. I got 16 psi in both before I blew up my ride, hehehaha...oh, uh, actually that's not really funny....
Really though, I don't know what it could be. Does it always only put out 6 psi or is it intermittant at all?

You didn't know the 16G had a 9 psi wastegate Phil?
I've posted that fact in a few different threads that you were actively a part of. I also think you were part of a few conversations where that was mentioned. I think you must have just spaced it mang. You didn't actually 'break in' your turbo so you never really ran wastegate boost before but I'm sure we've discussed it on more then one occasion.

And I too had a perfect 9 psi on wastegate boost during my break in. I even thought it odd that I had pretty much no pressure drop across the I/C.

Matt, you might be interested in knowing what I know now about the TD05 and the CES BEP.
The wastegate hits the BEP opening. I had to dremel mine out.
It works fine now, and I noticed immediately the lack of boost spiking.

Hmm, really? I wonder if mine is too. I didn't really have any spiking issues at all though. You're using a different BEP then I am though too. I used one of my TD04 BEP's. IIRC you used either the VF23 or VF12 BEP (I don't recall off hand). I still haven't tried either of mine of those others yet. That's good to know though. So it catches on the flange part, right? Not the baffle?

It catches the flapper.
I cut a notch out of the BEP. I took a pic, I'll post it when I get my pics on the computer.
Seemed to work fine after that. But I am just running wastegate boost now. My BEP is for the VF12 IIRC. Not quite sure. Might be the VF23, but I am not sure.

Ya, I thought it was odd that they didn't already have one too because of the 93-96's having them down under but Trevor didn't.
CES, Deadbolt and I were supposed to work together to make some for the Monster 16G (one for me and one for Trevor so he could produce more) but things got all screwed up. Trevor (CES)sent Jerry (deadbolt) a flange and baffle but they were SS, in two peices and Jerry didn't have SS welding capabilities on site. We were trying to get it all done before the F&S too and it kinda fell apart. Then Jeff (MSR/CES) wanted just an exhaust housing to send to Australia for Trevor but Jerry didn't have one readily available that he could just let go of and Jeff lost interest and now I don't think it'll ever happen.

I think i fixed the problem. I took everything apart today and made sure everything was in working order. The inlet piece on the turbo wasnt clamped down and was quite loose. Then there was about a pint of synthetic oil in the intercooler. Also the msd ignition had a really loose wire on the coil pack.
I didnt really get a chance to test if i could get more than 12 psi in first and second but I was getting consistent pressure around 12. Then the adjustment screw popped out of the bov so i decided to put the car away for the night.
I think the greddy type s is a pos. Putting a steel screw in aluminum where its liable to get stripped out is bad engineering imo.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

So i really found out what was wrong with the car. It turns out the line going to the gauge was leaking air, a lot of air. I fixed that then stepped on the gas in 5th gear and watched the needle climb to over 20 psi in no time. So I decided i better let off the gas. I adjusted the boost controller for about 15-16psi in first and second. Funny thing is, I'm never in gear long enough to hit the fuel cut at least until fifth.

I custom made my BEP for the 16G. I just modded one from a VF12. The slope of the housing is correct, the length is wrong. Fixed with a grinder. Then it was just a matter of grinding the BEP so the wastegate could open fully.
