Would you change your scoop if you could?

I like the wrx scoop style, if it would fit no modifications.

How would you modify the hood scoop?

Post by dscoobydoo »

a lot of people on here don't like the look of the WRX hood scoop on the cars, nor the STI one.

SO- how would you do it?

There is a guy who does custom fiberglas work and I might be getting a scoop to template off of.

So what would you do to it? would you buy a custom scoop you just bolt up to the original holes? Do you even care?

Original or more squared-off WRX style that comes through the hood and sits on the intercooler shaker style.

If you did that, you would have do something about the lip the current one sits on. But it is an interesting idea. But mount points would be specific to each car.

With a non-turbo hood the only worry would be making the hole the right size and shape and to cut it neatly.

I actually like the low height of the stock scoop, I was considering modifying it so the slit is the same height but the bottom part opens and angles down some

(hard to describe)

I think boostjunkie had thought about an inverted scoop situation...

At this point I've not noticed anything bad about my stocker so I won't be forking out money on a new scoop.

I'll keep mine stock, and just go FMIC. Might have to pick up another under-hood diverter though.

I like the way the scoop looks stock. However its not really functional for supplying air to an intercooler. My preference is a front mount and maintaining the facoty look. WRX/STi scoops look goofy.

i think the stock scoop really cannot be improved upon visually in regards to the body of the legacy.

Yeah, it's not very functional, i'd say so front mount or air water

I was thinking of undertaking the task of 'glassing up a new, slightly taller scoop myself.

I like the stock scoop's style, but I would like some more airflow for when I FINALLY install my i/c.

That about sums up my view too. :D

If/when I do a FMIC I'm thinking I might put an N/A hood and trunk on my SS for the ultimate sleeper look.

Right now I have a WRX scoop that's still at paint (my basemant waiting for me to finish it. Hey, it's only been about a year and half.) . I was planning on cutting it in for my TMIC to get more flow but the front mount is calling. It started as faint whispers in the further recesses of my mind but lately they've become screams that keep me up at night and won't let me reach climax. It sucks, I'm afraid if I don't get a FMIC soon I may develop EDD.

Funny. The thoughts of my FMIC going in simply induce that behavior. I've bought more laundry detergent in the past month, than I have my whole life.

I think a v6 STi scoop would look good on a Legacy, of course the clear solution is front-mount and stock hood, but if that's not possible, then v6 scoop.

I think a '98-'01 RS would look pretty sweet, too.
