Best place to find good car with bad motor?

Post by magicmike »

I'm thinking of trying to find an imprezza RS to put my engine into. The more I see these 2.5RS's the more I like em. I'm not really sure where to look for one thoug. I dont want one that runs I want one that has a blown motor or tranna and has a great body. Do you guys know of some online sourse for good cars with bad drivetrains or something?

I'd check your local junk yards. Over the years, my favorite one has stepped up in quality. It's been Loyal, then Legacy, now Impreza.

remeber you dont need a rs for the motor.

any imp. will work. but remember if you get a 97 or older you will need to swap the lights grille bumper and bumper beam and hood.

you DO live in a county where emissions are not tested, right?

Mike. . . in most cases (all if I'm not mistaken) it's illegal to drop a motor into a car where the chassis is newer than the powerplant.

Like Laurel said. . . live in a county where emissions are tested?

You could do a prefacelift Imp, too if the later bumper bolts up. I know the early WRX/Imp turbos had the same style bumper and I don't think the facelift changed the way the bumper fit.

I'm not talking about wanting body parts....I want a whole car and I want to put my engine into it. And what does emissions have to do with it? They dont have awd drive dynos for the inspections so they just do a sniffer in the tail pipe at idle or something.

Not only that. . . but if you're inspected by someone who knows anything about Subarus, you'd likely be fucked. . . . unless they're a huge fan of what you've done to the car. ;)

this is ASSUMING I ever inspect the damn thing. Inpections are not required when registering a car and if you are not in the system they never know. I havent had a car inspected in at leaste 4-5 years...beat the system!!!!

No, a non-functioning OBD2 port doesn't mean immediate failure. It usually just constitutes a tail pipe test.

It all depends on the area.

Plenty of standalone engine management systems out there eliminate the OBD2 port, yet plenty of people still run those EMS on new, daily driven, cars.

A hybrid ECU using the stock OBD2 Impreza ECU, and a UTEC or similar would have the car work, or an ECU from a JDM WRX over-ridden by an Apex-i PowerFC or something.
