Electric superchargers work and don't. In theory, sure, they could work. In practice, I would rather waste my time thinking about a Hayabusa powered Miata.

Easiest way to turbo a BC/BF is to buy a turbo BC/BF. Second to that, would be swapping the turbo setup from a Turbo BC/BF into an N/A BC/BF. Final way, would be to peice together a custom turbo setup.

Regular superchargers work as Doug Vincent has well proven, but he has more tools than Rosie O'donnel has chins. Lots of custom fabbing done on his setup.

Cheap ways to get power. Well, the cheapest is nitrous, obviously.

The old saying often rings true: "Cheap, Fast, Reliable: Pick Two." Cheap and fast: Nitrous.

As well as a stock 1.8 turbo is only putting out 115 hp, 15 less than the stock 2.2

There is one electric supercharger out there that does work.

However the cost for just the supercharger at 3 psi starts at $800, not including all the electrical work needed.

Nitrous is FUN!

To answer the question about the turbo from an 1987 GL-10,maybe, you would have to get exhaust manifold from a turbo legacy and the down pipe from the GL-10, its only a 4 bolt flange. I know I tryed putting a wrx turbo on my XT, and what a pain that was. Lots of fabrication. Hope that helps a little.
